

Joseph F. Dunn, age 87, passed away on October 8, 2010 at his home in Uncasville. He was born in Norwich, CT on June 6, 1923 to the late David and Margaret (Heibel) Dunn. He married his loving wife Therese (LeBlanc) Dunn on June 23, 1951 at St. Mary Church in Norwich by the late Rev. George Donahue.
Joseph served in the Army during WWII throughout Europe, as well as the Philippines, and Japan. Among the many medals, he received the Grand Conduct medal and the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged as Corporal in 1946. He then went on to work at Electric Boat where he retired as a foreman after 36 years. He was a member of the VFW in Montville, the American Legion, and the Montville Senior Center. He was also a communicant at St. John Church in Uncasville.
In addition to his wife Therese Dunn, Joseph is survived by a daughter Carol Dunn, a son John Dunn and his wife Diane of Hanover, a son David Dunn and his wife Joan of Stonington, and a son Leon Dunn of Uncasville. He also leaves behind a sister Margaret Blanchard of Portland, OR., a granddaughter Danielle Lavallee and her husband Michael of Berlin, grandson Patrick Dunn of Hanover, grandson Keith Dunn of Boston, granddaughter Jayme Dunn of Stonington, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout the country. He is predeceased by brothers Bill and John Dunn and sisters Agnes Breen and Mary Rail.
Joe’s love of outdoor activities included fishing, camping, swimming, and traveling, including a family cruise to the Caribbean. He loved gardening and was known for giving away the produce that he grew. He was an avid square dancer who turned to country western dancing in 1987. Joe also volunteered at the Montville Senior Center and was honored with his wife as older American month appreciation award.
Family and friends may visit Church and Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St., Norwich on TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Church, Maple Ave., Uncasville. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Norwich. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. John Church, 22 Maple Ave., Uncasville, CT 06382.
