

Bozrah- Marion Julia Wenzel Murphy, age 94, of Bozrah, Connecticut, passed into heaven on January 20, 2013. She was born to Stephen Frederick Wenzel and Ida May Judge Wenzel-Maynard on March 6, 1918. Marion was married on May 28, 1938 to Edmund Otis Murphy at Leffingwell Baptist Church in Bozrah, Connecticut.
She and her husband were members of Central Baptist Church in Norwich, Connecticut where she was a member of the Women’s League. She taught Sunday School for many years both at Leffingwell Baptist Church and Central Baptist Church. Marion received a diploma from E.T.T.C.
She was a member and president of Fields Memorial School, Bozrah, CT PTA. She worked on the committee for the first school lunch program at Fields Memorial School and helped on all school projects. She performed in the stage productions put on by Bozrah as fund raisers for the school.
Marion worked as Supervisor of Baking at Norwich Free Academy for thirty years where she was the originator of the famous Apple Goody dessert. She attended the summer sessions at the Culinary Institute of America at Yale New Haven Hospital and summer sessions at UConn at Hartford, Connecticut.
Her favorite poem is A Kitchen Prayer and she carried many Scriptures with her always finding joy, comfort and help in them.
Marion and Edmund have three children, Janet Marion Murphy Schmidt and her husband Karl of Acacia Village in Utica, New York, Laraine Carole Murphy Goodwin of Bozrah, CT and Judith Ann Murphy-Howe and her husband John of Norwich, CT.
She has six grandchildren, Lorelei Thomas and her husband Merrill of Warwick, RI, Aprile Sleight and her husband David of Springfield VA, Ruth Stuart-Curley and her husband James of Bozrah, CT, Mark Goodwin and his wife Lenoria of Foster, RI, Amy Corey and her husband John of Canterbury, CT Tod Murphy of Bozrah, CT. She has seventeen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held for Marion Murphy on February 2, 2013 at eleven o’clock in the morning at Leffingwell Baptist Church on Route 82 in Bozrah, CT followed by a reception in the church dining room.
