It is with extreme sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Nancy Lee Phillips Shea, on June 7, 2025. Nancy was a resident of Parrottsville TN. For the past several years she summered at Hidden Acres Campground in Preston, CT.
Nancy was born February 5, 1949 to the late Charles Sr and Emma Phillips in New London, CT. She lived in Groton most of her childhood years, graduating from Fitch High School in 1967. Later residing in Norwich.
Nancy worked for and retired from The Norwich State Hospital for a total of 26 years. To say she enjoyed her job was an understatement. Nancy fought hard for her clients. Even fighting the Governor when he wanted to close the place down. She was truly dedicated to making life better for others.
On a beautiful twentieth day of June 1981 she married Ted Shea at the Norwich Rose Garden. Together they took many trips with family and friends and made countless unforgettable memories.
Nancy loved her plants! And everything sparkly! The more glitter, the better! Both her home in TN and her camper in CT had more plants and flowers than many nurseries! There wasn’t a plant sale she could pass by! Nancy also loved to shop! She could spend hours looking for a bargain. And she did! Nancy not only shopped for herself and her family, but also for the “littles” of her camp family. And they quickly knew who she was!!
Nancy is survived by her husband Ted and their beloved dog, Scruffy. Her son Trad Horner, his wife Julie and their children, Madison and husband Wade, Samantha, Abigail and TJ. She is also survived by her bonus daughter, Cassie, husband Justin and their sons Tyler, Jadon and Justin Jr. As well as granddaughter Rheanna Coates, husband Corey and their 3 children, Addison, Hudson and Levi.
Also left to treasure the many memories made are several close friends, cousins, nieces and nephews. Including her niece, Dawn Penman, who was like another bonus daughter, husband Dan and their daughters Emilee Nelson, husband Cody, and Taylor Penman. And her great, great niece Jovie Nelson. As well as a great, great nephew on the way! Whom she had already started to shop for.
Nancy was predeceased by her parents, a bonus daughter, Kelly Shea, her brother Charles Jr, his wife Diane, and just in January, her sissy Jeanne.
A celebration of a life well lived will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2025 at Mohegan Park Pavilion 12pm-4pm. The event will be catered by Irene’s but we ask that you bring your own beverages. In honor of Nancy’s favorite color, please consider wearing pink or anything sparkly!
