Odessa Cagle

Odessa was born in Pinehurst, NC on July 2nd, 1931 to the late Sheldon and Florence (Monroe) Russell. Sixty-three years ago she married her beloved husband Henry Earl Cagle in South Carolina.

She was a devoted wife and mother of 14 children and a devoted member of Evans Memorial AME Zion Church in Norwich which was near and dear to her heart. She served on the Laity Ministry and Senior Choir where they referred to her as “songbird”. She attended bible study and noon day prayer on a weekly basis.

Odessa was a great mother to her 14 children and everyone she came in contact with. She enjoyed singing and watching her soaps but her greatest enjoyment came from being with and feeling the love of her family. She will be greatly missed by all.

Besides her loving husband Henry Earl Cagle, she is also survived by her children; Ernie (Geraldine) Cagle of Jewett City, CT, Bernie (Julie) Cagle of Norwich, CT, Henry “Tweetsie” (Sharon) Cagle of Norwich, CT, Ron Cagle of New London, CT, George Cagle of Norwich, CT, Mazie Augmon of Plainfield, CT, Kenvis (Terry) Cagle of Iowa, Michael (Michelle) Cagle of Norwich, CT, Harold Cagle of Sacramento CA, Diane Strong of Mystic, CT, Darlene (Dwayne) Burgess of Boston, MA, Lisa Cagle of Groton, CT, Michelle (Eugene) Brown of Norwich, CT, and Delores Cagle of Norwich, CT. Odessa is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Viewing will take place on Tuesday, October 20th at 10am at Evans Memorial AME Zion Church, 2 McKinley Av., Norwich, CT with Funeral Services beginning at 11am. Burial is private at the convenience of the family.
