1925 - 2016
Norwich- It is with profound sorrow that the Glenney family announces the passing of their beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She died at home with family by her side on Thursday, April 14th, 2016. Born in Indiana to Ursin and Ruth Goodman and raised in Michigan, she was the president of her high school class of 1943. Her 4-H scholarship allowed her to attend and graduate nursing school at Sparrow Hospital/Michigan State College in 1946, where she was crowned queen of the Military Ball. It was at Michigan State that she met her loving husband Dr. Christopher Glenney. Marcia, a very kind and generous person, was guided by a firm and deep love for God. She was truly dedicated to her family, the nursing profession, and her church where she directed the children's choir for many years. Her adventurous spirit inspired her to raft the Colorado River and pursue her passion for archeology. This led to her work in ancient pottery restoration and participation in many international digs. As an avid reader, historian, and crossword puzzle enthusiast, she had a thirst for knowledge and finished her B.S. degree in 1981 from Eastern CT State College. She was a faithful member of The Monday Study Club, a talented singer, seamstress, quilter and homemaker extraordinaire. Their 68 years of marriage were blessed with ten children. She possessed a quiet voice but a strong determination to make each of her children feel uniquely special. Marcia is survived by her devoted husband, Dr Christopher C. Glenney, and nine children; Dr. Christopher U.(and Patricia) Glenney; Drs. Daniel (and Sandra) Glenney; Janet (and Dr Matthew) Roche; Dr. Heather (and Joseph) Ziemba; Katharyn (and Dr. Vincent) Laudone; Laurel (and Stephen) Popovich; Judith (and Mark) Johnson; Carol (and Rev. Jay) Kelly; and Dr. Gavin (and Claire) Glenney. Her beautiful life will be forever cherished in the memories and lives of her thirty grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her brother Dr Floyd (and Audrey) Goodman, her sister Patricia Mohlie (and Al) Escola, and her sister-in-law Trudy Goodman. She is predeceased by her parents, her sister Katharyn (and Dr. Donald) DeMerritt, her brother Dr John Goodman, and her dear son Brian Glenney. Calling hours will be held on Friday 4/22/16 from 7-9pm and the memorial service on Saturday 4/23/16 at 11 am, both at Lee Memorial United Methodist Church on Washington Street, in Norwich. A luncheon will follow the service. Donations to either The Glenney Family NFA scholarship Fund or Lee Church would honor our Marcia.
