

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Richard Paul Wanta, of Ledyard, CT, who died unexpectedly at his home on June 18, 2016.
Richard was born January 4, 1954 in Meriden, CT. He attended Weston, CT schools from 1965 to 1972. He was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America and attained Eagle Scout status at the age of 15. After graduating from Weston High School, Richard attended St. Francis College in Biddeford, ME and continued his education at UCONN Storrs, CT receiving a B.S. in Business Administration.
Richard had recently retired from Computer Sciences Corporation where he worked for over 24 years. His hobbies and passion for people were many—
Richard crewed for SCCA races at Lime Rock, CT; mentored future Eagle Scouts; cared for birds and gardening; and enjoyed camping and fishing. During his retirement years, he spent mornings collecting sea glass at Misquamicut State Beach in Westerly, RI and visiting with his many neighbors.
He is survived by his loving mother, Laura K. Wanta of Weston, CT, and sisters, Terese Deitz and Suzanne Wanta and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Robert N. Wanta, brothers Mark S. Wanta and Robert J. Wanta, and his beloved dog “Wolfie”.
A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date. There are no calling hours.
