

Norwich-Robert Alexander Bassett, 83, passed away on December 24, 2014, at the Norwichtown Rehabilitation and Care Center. Born March 3, 1931, in Norwich, he was the son of the late Eugene and Noemi Bassett. He is survived by his loving wife Rita Dlugos Bassett with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Barbara Henderson and husband Matthew Henderson of Friendswood, Texas, Robert Bassett Jr. of Juneau Alaska, daughter Jane Baillargeon and husband David, and grandsons Michael, Paul, and Justin Baillargeon. He is also survived by brothers Antoine and Eugene Bassett and sister Agnes Barnes.
Robert graduated from the Norwich Free Academy in 1950. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. Prior to retirement he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Norwich as a letter carrier and clerk. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1004, Disabled American Veterans, and the Marine Corps League.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, December 28th, 2014 from 5pm to 7pm at the Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Avenue, Norwich, CT. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, December 29th, 2014 at 10am at Saints Peter and Paul Church, 181 Elizabeth Street, Norwich, CT. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Norwich.
