

UNCASVILLE – Robert Charles Fletcher Sr., 95, died peacefully Tues. Sept. 22, 2015. He was the first born son of Charles and Valida (DesRosiers) Fletcher. Born in Canterbury, the family also lived in Plainfield and Norwich.
On Oct. 14, 1944 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Norwich, he married Claire Evelyn Haynes who he shared his life with for over 70 years. He also leaves two sons; William of Woodenville, WA and Robert Jr of Groton and a daughter; Carol Carlson of Gales Ferry. Also missing him are his 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Bob was also predeceased by his brothers and sister, Warren of Los Angeles, CA, Chester of Pawhuska, OK, Clifford (Skip) of Uncasville, CT and Joyce Hebert of Norwich.
Bob was a WWII Army veteran in the 45th Thunderbird Division in North Africa and Sicily. During the Italian campaign, he was wounded at the battle in Anzio. He never forgot the friends left behind.
He retired from Pfizers at the Groton plant after 33 years. His passion for cars lasted his entire life. Bob was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, VFW and the American Legion Post #4, Norwich.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, Sept., 26th at 10:30am at Maplewood Cemetery, 186 Salem Tnpk., Norwich, CT with Military Honors.
