He was born in Manorville, PA on August 13, 1929 to the late Ralph and Jennie (Cunningham) Minteer, the youngest of six children. He married his beloved Claire (Bergeron) on November 26, 1953 at St. Patrick's Cathedral of Norwich, CT and began their life together.
He joined the US Navy in 1948 and served as a career diesel submariner for 20 years.
After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Stanley was employed by Thames Valley Transit, first as a diesel mechanic and then promoted to General Manager of that department. Upon closure of that company, he would go to work for himself owning and operating Thames Valley Truck Center in Franklin, CT and CHAM Equipment in Norwich. He also owned his own small fleet of tractor trailers which were contracted with PA Truck lines.
He was a simple man with an incredible talent working with his hands to fix or build anything he put his mind to. He was a true tinkerer and consummate provider for his family. He would anonymously share his abilities with anyone who might be broken down along the roadside- a true Good Samaritan.
Stanley is survived by his wife Claire, 5 children: T. Michele Minteer, Diane N. Minteer, Cynthia L. Minteer, Carleen C Davis and her husband Edward “Lance”, Martha J. Minteer; 2 sisters: Charlotte Sellers of MS, and Helen Kijowski of PA , 4 grandchildren: Lyndsay Churchill-Judkins and her husband Erik, Devon Colburn, Elizabeth Davis and Edward Nate Davis; 1 great-grandchild: Dylan Judkins; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers: James, Ronald “Buzz” and Robert “Bobby”.
Stanley’s family would like to express their gratitude for the excellent care provided by Cheryl Brown of Your Guardian Angel LLC, and kind support of Hospice Southeastern CT.
