Betty J. Rice

Betty J. (Moore) Rice, 92, died on December 19, 2018 at the New York State Veteran’s Home. She was born on April 4, 1926 in Afton, NY to the late Arthur and Florence (Follett) Moore. She graduated from Norwich High School in 1943 and immediately began working at Chenango County National Bank where she continued her employment through several mergers until her retirement in 1986 from Chase Lincoln Bank. On November 26, 1949 Betty married Hugh T. Rice, of Norwich who predeceased her in 2005. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Arthur Moore, Lawrence Moore, Richard Moore, and Victor Moore. Survivors include her children, Judy and Luis Flores, of Bronx NY, Dr. Kathleen Rice, of Staten Island, NY, and Thomas and Susanne Rice, of Norwich; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside service for Betty will take place in North Norwich Cemetery and will be announced in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s memory may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St. Norwich, NY 13815 or to Chenango County SPCA 6160 County Rd. 32 Norwich, NY 13815. “I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one. I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I'd like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun of happy memories that I leave when life is done.”
