
Dana was born on June 28, 1925 in the Town of Hamilton the son of Leon and Grace Burdick Holt. He was a graduate of the Earlville Central School graduating with the class of 1943. The same month of his graduation he joined the United States Navy. He served in the Atlantic on shore patrol. Dana also served in the Pacific Theatres of Operation on the USS Vickburg, an anti - aircraft artillery cruiser which supported the bombardment for the invasion of IwoJima and the liberation of the Phillipine Islands.
Dana and his family have owned and operated the Happy Valley Farms on West Hill Road since 1962.
On July 15, 1950 in Guilford he married Nancy Lee who survives.
Besides his wife Nancy of Sherburne, Dana is survived by his children; Linda (Robert) Hoag of Norwich, Michael (Kathie) Holt of Sherburne, Susan (Llyle) Cline of Norwich, his daughter-in-law Linda Holt of Sherburne, his grandchildren Gretchen Hoag, Stephen and Ryan Holt, Lauren and Rachel Morrison. Also surviving are his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Joyce and Frederick Lee of Bainbridge and a very special niece Janice Holt and nephew H. Brian Holt as well as other nieces and nephews.
Dana was predeceased by his parents Leon and Grace, his eldest son Douglas Holt, his brothers Donald, Claude, Harold, Ralph and Clayton and a sister Grace Manon.
Graveside services for Dana will be held on Monday, June 4, at 11:00 am from the Sherburne West Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Ralph Hinman of Norwich will officiate.
There will be no calling hours.
