Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 7 at 3PM at the Council of the Arts Center, 27 W. Main St., Norwich.
His wife of over 40 years, Diane, was with him and never left his side as they courageously battled his illness for over six years. Herb was born August 15, 1962 in Bogota, Colombia and moved to the US when eight years old. He was pre-deceased by his daughter Louisa, and survived by Diane, his son Herb Vasquez II (Cassie), daughter Jennifer, and grandsons Dezmond and Adriel whom he loved very much.
Herb is survived by his parents Maria and Manuel Vasquez, his sisters Maria Patricia Marin, Doris Howard (Raymond), his brothers Mario Vasquez, Mauricio Vasquez, and Oscar Vasquez (Maribel Hernandez), his loving brothers-in-law Joseph Jimenez (Mary-Anne). As well as Richard Jimenez and Rogelio Delgado Jr., and many nieces and nephews with whom he had a special bond.
Herb loved his family very much and never held back his affection for them. He dedicated his life to his God, Jehovah often expressing his strong faith. Herb was very active as a volunteer to help others learn bible principles that would improve their lives and give them a hope.
He was appointed to serve as a member of the Hospital Liaison Committee of Jehovah’s Witnesses and served as a resource and mentor to many while facilitating relationships with Physicians and Hospitals throughout central New York.
His over 30 years at Raymond corporation were part of a life record of dependability and creativeness in graphic design. He and Diane partnered in a photography business for years showcasing a unique vision for bringing memories to life.
Herb had hundreds of dear friends who were amazed at his positive attitude especially when facing adversity. He became a very good public speaker known for his illustrations and enthusiastic delivery while motivating the audience to apply what they read in the Bible. He gave speeches in English and Spanish, sometimes in front of groups of over 5,000 people.
Herb enjoyed putting miles on his road bike, was phenomenal at soccer, was known for his affectionate sense of humor, he cared for others and would often end a conversation with I love you.
Our comfort is that Herb rests safely in God’s memory until these words come true “That you would set a time limit for me and remember me!” – Job 14:13
