

Hillis L. Crandall, 91, of Sherburne, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023.Hillis was born in Oneonta to the late Hobart and Bessie Lawrence Crandall. He was also predeceased by his ex-wife, Betty; and his siblings, Lorna Nesbitt, Marlene Nordman, Cherie Esparza, Norris Crandall, and Dale Crandall.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Janet Edson Carnrike Crandall; his children, Cynthia Crandall and Steven Blinn, of Port Richey, FL; Joan Crandall, of Bloomfield, CT; and Susan and Marty Burke, of Dade City, FL; his step-children, Dale and Sue Carnrike, of Scott Township, PA; Robin Carnrike, of Edmeston, NY; Denise Nower, of Hamilton, NY; and Analisa Angle, of Lexington, NC; his grandchildren, A.J. Burke, of New Berlin, NY; Troy Burke, of Northville, NY; Brittney Carnrike, of PA; Lisa Shapiro, of PA; Joe Shapiro, of PA; Janelle Nower, of Hamilton, NY; Andrew Carnrike, of NC; Danielle Harris, of FL; Mandy Carnrike, of VA; and Mandell Carnrike, of VA; his great-grandchildren, Kirsten Pepper, Sophia Burke, Levi Burke, and Nash Burke; his sisters, Anita LaVassaur, and Karen Myth; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Hillis grew up in Cobleskill and upon leaving school, he served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a truck driver and bus driver, but his heart was always on the farm and he loved John Deere tractors and riding his motorcycle. Hillis was also a member of Lodge 553 of the Free and Accepted Masons.
Hillis will be laid to rest in Hillington Cemetery on Tuesday, May 16, at 12:00 pm with Pastor Richard Anderson officiating a graveside service. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of the New York State Veterans Home for the care and compassion shown while Hillis resided there.
