Joan V. Smith

Joan V. Smith, 86, of Oxford, NY passed away early Wednesday morning, November 17, 2021, at her home.

Joan was born in Norwich on December 13, 1934 the daughter of John and Mildred (Marvin) Manley. She grew up in the South New Berlin area where she attended and graduated from the South New Berlin School. Her early working career began with Norwich-Eaton Pharmaceuticals and in 1978 she became employed with Unison from which she retired in 1999.

Joan was always putting her family first making sure they were taken care of. She enjoyed roaming Chenango County and surrounding areas making her rounds to many garage sales. Joan was also fond of cardinals which she would feed and watch.

On January 13, 1957 in Norwich she married Norman Smith who survives. Besides her husband Norman of Oxford, Joan is survived by her children Tammy (Mark) Reynolds of FL, Norman Smith, Jr. of Mt. Upton, Colleen (Raymond) Melella of Mt. Upton, Aaran Smith of Sidney and Darcy Smith of Oxford. Also surviving are her sisters Bonnie Lee Cannestra of AL and Donna Maloney of NC, her grandchildren Brandi Backus, Gavin Backus, Eva Smith, Amanda Smith, Elizabeth Smith, Austin James Smith and Brianna Bradtke along with 7 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Joan will be held on Tuesday, November 23, at 1:00 pm from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. Pastor Grant Smith of the Holmesville Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday from 11-1pm.
