John H. Roberts

John was born in Norwich on December 14, 1930 the son of Emrys and Elizabeth (Shorter) Roberts. He grew up in Norwich and attended the Norwich schools. John was a Veteran of the United States Air Force serving his country during the Korean War from 1950-1953. He had worked in the telecommunication industry for 35 years, working first for C&U and subsequently for Contel and Verizon, retiring as a Central Office Equipment Supervisor.

John was an avid bowler. He had set pins at the YMCA, bowled at the Family Rec Center, as well as Brown Ave. lanes. He was a member of the Norwich Bowlers Hall of Fame and bowled several 300 games. He also took up the game of golf at the age of 77, was a member of the South New Berlin Horseshoe Club and the Oxford American Legion.

John is survived by his sons Craig (Nettie) Roberts, Tim (Becky) Roberts both of Norwich, his grandchildren Michael (Kimberly) Roberts of Massachusetts, Matthew Roberts of Norwich, Stephanie (Ben) Wood of Rochester, Matthew (Sara) Yacano of Norwich, Zachary Yacano of Norwich, Melinda Dixson of Olean, and Katelyn Dixson of NC. Also surviving are 7 great grandchildren and his sister Helen Fuller.

John was predeceased by his wife Betty Lou Chamberlain Roberts, his son Mark John Roberts and a special friend Faye Wade.

Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-7 pm. Graveside services with military rites will be held at a later date at the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
