

Joyce C Barrows known to many as ‘Joy’ passed on to be with the Lord April 22, 2019 at the Chenango Memorial Hospital Residential Health Care Facility Born Joyce Alene Carnrike on January 10th, 1932, Woods Corners NY. She was a long time resident of Oxford NY. Joyce was a graduate of Norwich High School class of 1949. She continued her education and completed a cosmetology degree in Ohio. She returned home to Norwich where she opened and operated her own hair Salon “Joy’s Beauty Room” in the Norwich area for over 50 years. He clients and employee’s loved her dearly. For over 51 years, she was a member of the United church of Christ, First Congregational, of Norwich where she was a Deacon and served on the board. In addition to the administrative duties, she participated in the Thanksgiving basket project along with many other activities. Joyce was a member of the local hair dressers association where she served as president for many years, she was also involved with the garden club, Habitat for Humanity, Woods Corners ladies group, Chenango Peacemakers Quilt Guild, and Home Bureau. She loved being with people and she could talk, talk, talk. Joy loved to cook and bake; especially for family, friends, and bake sales. She loved flowers in her yard and the birds and wildlife who visited there. She also loved to quilt, knit, and read of which she donated endless supplies of quilts, handmade stuffed animals and many other handcrafted items to the hospital and other organizations. Joy loved spending time with her kids/grandkids playing games and doing puzzles as well as making them hats, mittens, quilts, corn warmers and other gifts. She opened her home to several kids in need while they finished high school as well as to victims of domestic violence as a safe house. She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. May she Rest in Peace. Joy was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Leota Carnrike, and her brother in law, Charles Crandall. She is survived by her four children, James "Chris" and Eva Wright of Norwich, Jocyndra "Jo" Wright of Gainsville, Fl, Jalyndra "Lindy" and Michael Lewis of Endwell, NY, and Jeffrey Barrows and Wendy Moore of Oxford; her grandchildren, Blake, Bodie, and Bray Barrows, Adam del Cano and Andrew del Cano; her step grandchildren, Oliver Currie, Don and Teri Currie, and Grace Currie; her great-grandchildren, Skyler, Ariana, Kayleigh, Mia, Lark, and Raven; also surviving is her sister, Colleen Crandall. Joy’s family will receive friends at R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad St. on Sunday April 28th from 3:30-5:30 pm. A funeral/ celebration of life will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday April 29th, at United Church of Christ, 11 W. Main St. Norwich with Rev. Joe Connelly officiating. Joyce will be laid to rest with her parents and grandparents in the North Norwich Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, any donations in her memory may be made to the Norwich Home Bureau in care of Charlotte Stroud, 560 County Road 19, Norwich, NY 13815.
