Lorraine M. Warner, 62, of Norwich, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2016, at Upstate Medical University surrounded by friends and family. Lorraine was highly respected by her peers in the local law enforcement community, deeply involved in the safety and wellbeing of those around her, and loved by her family and friends; she will be greatly missed.
Born in Norwich, New York to Lawrence and Marion Warner, Lorraine was a graduate of Norwich High School with the class of 1972. Following high school she started working at Ames Department Store as Receiving Manager until 1985 when she left to begin her career in law enforcement which spanned 20 years. A police academy graduate, using her helpful nature building trust and respect within the community she cared for, Lorraine was instrumental in maintaining and teaching the safety programs in both Norwich elementary schools. She was applauded for her work in programs like, “Stranger Danger” and “Fire Safety.” Lorraine was a Sergeant with Norwich Police Department for the last ten years of her career before her retirement in October 2005. In her retirement, Lorraine delivered flowers for Pires Flower Basket.
Lorraine remained dedicated to her community, outside her position in law enforcement, through her unwavering volunteer efforts with Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival every year and continued support of the classroom program she implemented. An avid bowler, she was a member of the Women’s 600 league. Lorraine was also supportive and active in the Norwich Police Benevolent Association (PBA). During her long career she was awarded Humanitarian of the Year.
While Lorraine was truly a dependable, loyal, respected member of her professional and local community, family was foremost in her mind. Known as being ‘the entertainer’, Lorraine had a special knack for spoiling children and will be remembered as a fun loving woman who loved life.
