

Richard I. Smith, 92, of Cincinnatus, passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. Richard was a lifelong resident of the Cincinnatus area, born on a farm in the Town of Taylor to the late Ivan and Gladys Smith. He was a hard worker all of his life and enjoyed dairy farming, working in the sawmill and making maple syrup every spring with his brother, John. Richard also loved to spend time hunting deer and going fishing in Canada. He greatly enjoyed the Adirondack Mountains, becoming an unofficial tour guide of historical sites in and around Raquette Lake. In his later years, Richard kept himself busy finding chores to accomplish on his John Deere tractor. Most of all, Richard was a loving husband, father and good friend to all who were privileged to know him.
Richard is survived by his wife of 36 years, Dianne; his children, Ricky and Pegg Smith, Lonnell and Kevin Guernsey, Tamera Endemann and Ray Caruana, and Nannette and Richard Supley; his step children, Anita and Lee Stanton, Shelley and Michael Stettinius, Christopher Meisel, and Cameron Meisel; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; his brother, John and Beatrice Smith; his sister, Sharon Livermore; many nieces and nephews; and his hunting friends, James Blanchard, Chris Smith, and Mark Cobb.
In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his first wife, Jean Seamans Smith; his sister, Phyllis Ketchum; and his hunting friend, John Davis.
A memorial service for Richard will take place at 11:00 am on Monday, November 8, at United Presbyterian Church, 5695 Deerpath Lane, Cincinnatus with Pastor George Carruth officiating. Burial will follow at Taylor Rural Cemetery.
