It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Robert Arthur Lanfair, 61, of Candor, New York, who died on May 16, 2026 doing what he loved most- riding his motorcycle.
Born on September 26, 1964 in Sidney, New York, he was the son of Robert J. Lanfair and Sharon (Shafer) Lanfair. He is survived by both of his parents, his brothers Jeffrey and Clint Lanfair; daughters Sara McClure (Dallas) and Molly Lanfair; and mother of his children Amy Collins.
Bob had been employed by Trumansburg Telephone Company (later Go Net Speed) for nearly 30 years. He worked as a lineman, pole-climbing instructor, copper field tech, OSP manager, field engineer, and most recently, an OSP design engineer. In his decades there, he experienced and embraced great change within the organization. Before his time there, he worked for Haefele Cable in Spencer, NY where he met his life long friends Mike and Becky McNamara.
For those who did not have the pleasure of knowing Bob, he was a very special guy. He embodied everything you hope for in a person- he was kind, intentional, thoughtful, beyond cheerful, and had a smile that was contagious. Bob always did what was right in his heart- his character was truly genuine. He would drop what he was doing without hesitation to help anyone who needed a hand. He never cared who you were or what the ask was; he just knew there was a need and wanted to help. If there was something broken, Bob could fix it. When he wasn’t on his bike you could find him trying a new recipe, fixing something in the garage, or working on one of his favorite prized vehicles including a 1961 TR3A Triumph.
Bob’s love for his two daughters lit up a room. He loved to express how proud he was of their accomplishments. He was a very proud dad. As mentioned earlier Bob had a passion for motorcycles. Any chance he could, he would take motorcycle trips all across the country with his brother Jeff, cousin Jerry, and good friend Eric. He always had great stories and many pictures to share.
Bob's warmth, generosity, and sense of humor will be greatly missed and remembered forever by his friends, family, and colleagues.
Private services will be held at the discretion of the family.
