Ruth Ann Berg of Norwich, NY, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on May 31, 1931, Ruth lived a life full of love, compassion, and dedication to her family and community. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Ruth’s warmth and generosity left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Ruth was the beloved wife of the late Bill Berg, with whom she shared a life rooted in devotion and mutual care. Together, they raised four sons: William, Shane, Tom, and Bruce. She survives by her sons and wives, Nancy, Linda, Jonni, and Trish. Ruth was a proud grandmother to 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her twin brother, Robert Smith.
Ruth dedicated many years of her life to serving others through her work in the Norwich school system and at Simmons, where she was known for her diligence, kindness, and heartfelt commitment to her community. She had an inviting personality that made everyone feel welcome and loved. With her endless patience, Ruth enjoyed teaching and sharing wisdom with her sons, especially if they would sit still long enough to
listen.
She was also deeply involved in her family’s passion for harness racing. Ruth was always by her husband Bill’s side, helping him care for the horses and lending a hand at the racetrack. After his passing, she continued to support their son Bruce with his involvement in the horse barn and races. Even when she couldn’t be there in person, she’d find someone to log in to the race website so she could watch and cheer them on from afar.
Ruth gave of herself freely, always offering a listening ear, a kind word, and boundless support to those around her. Her compassion and gentle spirit were truly a gift to all who knew her. She now rejoins her beloved Bill in heaven and leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and family and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025, at 10:00am at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Norwich, NY.
She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Arrangements have been entrusted to RJ Fahy Funeral Home, Norwich, NY.
