Barbara Ann Sweeney

SWEENEY, Barbara Ann (Dalton) of Norwood, Sunday Aug. 23. Daughter of the late Edward G. and Margaret (Barrett) Dalton; beloved wife of Edward J. Sweeney; devoted mother of Dr. Janet S. Rico and her husband Arthur Rico Jr. of Wrentham, Patricia A. Fox and her husband David of Manassas VA, and Joseph E. Sweeney and his wife Kathleen of New Canaan CT; loving grandmother of Michelle and Lauren Rico, Kaite and Matthew Fox, and Daniel, Patrick, and Caroline Sweeney; sister of the late Claire Micale and Edward Dalton Jr. Barbara was a 1949 graduate of St. Thomas School in Jamaica Plain and then went on to attend and graduate from Regis College in 1953, earning her Bachelors Degree in Nutritional Science. She completed an internship in Dietetics with Eastman Kodak, earning certification from the American Dietetic Association. In later years Barbara worked as the Dietitian Manager for MIT foodservice, Leonard Morse Hospital, Natick, and then as director of the nutrition department at Norwood and Southwood Hospitals, retiring in 1994. She was a founding member of the Norwood Evening Garden Club, was an avid gardner and reader, Eucharistic Minister and volunteer at St. Timothy Church, and also volunteered at the Ellis Nursing Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday Aug. 27 at 10 o’clock at St. Timothy Church, 650 Nichols St. NORWOOD. Interment Highland Cemetery, Norwood. There are no calling hours.
