Bernard "Bernie" F. Spillane Jr.

SPILLANE, Bernard F. Jr. “Bernie” 68, of Norwood died peacefully at home Wednesday morning, August 23 after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 45 years Cindy (Thompson) Spillane and the joys of his life his children Brian Spillane of Norwood and Denise Spillane Giroux and her husband Michael of Philadelphia PA. Brother of AnneMarie Nicholson of Plymouth and her late husband Jim, Barbara Quinn and her husband Butch of Chatham NY, and Claire Nota, Patricia Zappi and her husband John, and Peter Spillane all of Walpole. Also survived by two brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

Born in Walpole to the late Bernard F. Spillane Sr. and Anna (O’Toole), Bernie was a 1967 graduate of Walpole High School and earned his Associate’s Degree from Dean College. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in Germany, building communication towers, he worked for 11 years in Maintenance at Norwood Hospital and held progressive maintenance roles in Medfield School Department, over 20 years, before retiring as Director of Plant.

Funeral Monday August 28 from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St. (Rt. 1A), NORWOOD, at 8 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Catherine of Siena Church, Norwood at 9. Visiting hours Sunday 4 – 8. Interment Highland Cemetery, Norwood. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Regan’s Acts of Kindness.
