

LYNCH, Cornelius Thomas, Jr., age 93, of Norwood, Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015. Born in Roslindale on Aug. 31, 1922, he was the eldest child of the late Cornelius T. Lynch and Abbie M. (Daley) Lynch. He was the beloved husband of 67 years of the late Helen M. (Wall) Lynch and the devoted father of C. Thomas, III, and Alice B. Lynch of New Jersey; James J. Lynch of Virginia; Ellen Lynch Schiavoni and Edmund S. Schiavoni, Jr., of New Hampshire; Anne M. Lynch-Lupica and Joseph A. Lupica of Brockton; and Theresa C. Lynch and Mary Lee C. Potter of Somerville. He was the cherished grandfather of Katherine H., Elizabeth M. and Caroline A. Schiavoni; Ramey E. Lynch; Jacqueline A. and Christina E. Lupica; and Owen C. and Claire C. Lynch. He was the beloved brother of Abbie M. Lynch and the late John H. Lynch, William F. Lynch and Frances G. Bergen; and the uncle of nine nieces and nephews. He was graduated from Dedham High School in 1940 and received a bachelor’s degree from Boston College in 1951 and a master’s in business administration from Northeastern University in 1955. From 1943 to 1946 he served in the U.S. Army Air Force as a communications specialist in New Guinea, the Philippines and post-war Japan. He began working full-time for New England Telephone in 1941 as a night-shift elevator operator while in college and went on to serve for more than 46 years in a variety of positions of increasing responsibility, including manager of training and education and district manager for revenue matters. After retiring in 1988, he continued as an active member of the Telephone Company Pioneers. He was a founding member of the South Shore Chapter of NIHOA (the National Ice Hockey Officials Association); a longtime volunteer with the Bay State Games as a referee and supervisor of officials; and was the first member of the NIHOA executive board of directors to serve in all four elected positions as secretary/treasurer, first vice president, second vice president and president. He was named president emeritus of NIHOA, and in 2012, was the elected to the Massachusetts Hockey Hall of Fame. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 28, from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St., (Rt. 1A) NORWOOD at 10 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 547 Washington St, Norwood. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, Norwood. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, Nov. 27, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
