David A. Thorne of Norwood, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 at age 75.
Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Arthur and Wilmae (Cole) Thorne. He attended Millis High School ’66 and UMass Amherst ’70.
David was the beloved husband of 53 years of Margaret "Peggy" Lannon Thorne of Norwood. Sadly, they were celebrating their anniversary on the day he passed. He was the devoted father of Carolyn "Carrie" Thorne and her husband Joe Ziska of Norwood. David was the proud grandfather of Katherine "Kat" Ziska also of Norwood. He was the twin brother of Diana MacDougall of Franklin, and her late husband Barry.
David was introduced to Peggy by his best friend and future brother in-law Herbert Lannon, Jr. David is survived by Herbert "Bert" and his wife Kathy, sisters-in-law Polly Keister, Sarah Malneritch, brother-in-law Matthew Lannon and his wife Therese, and sister-in-law Nancy Loring. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews including Betsey, Heather, Matt, Megan, Becky (Goddaughter), Michael, Adam, Patrick, Bert III, Nique, Jessie, and Margaret, as well as great nephews and nieces
All who knew David knew of his love for the outdoors. He loved gardening and spending quiet time in his yard — full of lush irises, lilies, dogwoods, lilacs, and annuals. He enjoyed spending time at the lake, feeding the birds and fish, and taking in the stars and planets at night. He passed on this love for nature to Carrie and Katherine.
David enjoyed his New England Patriots and Red Sox, studying politics, reading about history, and talking about Thorne family history. He loved going to all of Katherine’s plays and musical performances. Listening to music, especially from the 60s, gave him such pleasure. He loved antique automobiles and could identify any classic car. He enjoyed taking photos and was a talented, but humble, painter.
But most of all, David loved being with his immediate and extended family, including spending vacations with the Schausses and Ziskas.
A Funeral Service will be held in the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street, NORWOOD on Monday July 10, at 10:30 AM, interment will follow at Vine Lake Cemetery, Medfield. Visiting Hours will be in the Funeral Home on Sunday from 3-6 PM.
