Rico was born in East Boston and moved to Roxbury at age 10. He was the oldest of five children of Angelo and Ruth Ciampa, who predeceased Rico.
Rico was an avid listener of music and particularly enjoyed the Allman Brothers and the Eagles. He enjoyed watching old Western TV shows and reading books about organized crime. He loved sunbathing on his bald head and going to the beach and taking drives listening to old music. He worked as a laborer for many years.
Rico considered his greatest gift to be his family and was always available for support, humor and deep talks. He was with his wife, Patty Diaferio, for almost 38 years and considered her his best friend. They enjoyed traveling, going out to dinner and just enjoying one another’s company. He was a stay at home Dad for his son, Edgard and loved his grandson, Xavius aka “The King” immensely. He was the man in the lives of his nephews, Matthew and Michael Howe, after their father passed in 1989. He was also the special friend of Michael Liotta and David Brock, who both spent a lot of personal time with Rico.
In addition to his parents, Rico is preceded by his son, John Ciampa and his brothers, Richard and Fred. Besides his wife, Patricia and son, Edgard, Rico is survived by his sister, Carol Rafferty of Weymouth and his brother, Angelo Ciampa. He is survived by his sisters in law, Anne Howe and Judy McAvoy and brother in law, John Diaferio. Rico was like a grandfather to Nicole McAvoy. He is also survived by his other children, Ann Aylward of Plymouth, Annette Larkin of Florida, Angela Peters of Florida, Linda Petitpas of Boston, James Petitpas of Florida and Andrew Petitpas.
