

Born in Boston on February 24, 1945, he was the son of the late Phyllis (Groah) and Chester E. Bromwell.
Philip grew up in Hingham, MA and was a graduate of Hingham High School. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Colby College, and a second bachelor’s degree from Boston College. Phil has been a faithful and beloved member of Congregation Ruach Israel in Needham, MA for the last 30 years. Gifted with a powerful singing voice, he served as Cantor and led the Congregation in song and prayer during services. He also taught Hebrew and helped many young people become bar or bat mitzvah. Earlier, he worked at Polaroid for many years. He was also a Trustee at World’s End Reservation in Hingham, MA.
He was the beloved husband of Constance A. Hayes. Philip was the devoted father of Leah Hannafin and her husband Thomas of Dracut, Paula Bromwell of Douglas; and stepfather of Stephen Colby and his wife Roberta of Marshfield, Judy Fournerat and her husband Will of Broken Arrow, OK, and Cindy Bootier of Milford. He was the proud grandfather of eleven grandchildren.
Some of his favorite days and most cherished memories were spent with his family and his grandchildren. He was an avid photographer. He loved taking photos of his family, friends and of nature. He loved to travel and would happily drive any distance to visit family, friends and enjoy an adventure. He was a “Road Warrior”. He will be dearly missed.
A Graveside Service will be held at Knollwood Memorial Park, 321 High Street, Canton on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at 2:00 PM.
