Veronica A. Gately

Beloved daughter of the late William and Mary (Gubbins) McAllan; loving wife of the late Allan Gately; devoted mother of Diane Gately of Tallahassee, FL, Susan Lopes and her husband Manny of Norwood, Teresa Zorio of North Attleboro, Allan Gately Jr. and his wife Donna of Norwood, Denise Curtin and her husband Stephen of W. Roxbury, David Gately and his wife Pamela of Norwood, Paul Gately and his wife Sandy of Pawcatuck, CT; foster mother of John “Red” Goodwin and his wife Carol of Old Orchard Beach, ME; sister-in-law of Roland Rioux of Vero Beach, FL; loving grandmother of Derek and Jason Hanlon, Tony and Manny Lopes, Larry Zorio and Deirdre Zorio Ferguson, Graham and Harry Gately, Christian Irving, Ashleigh Irving and the late Alison Irving, Melissa Curtin, Christopher, Robert and Michael Gately and Patrick and Faith Gately. Longtime companion of the late Ed Russell. She is also survived by 7 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and was predeceased by her siblings, Dolly Moore, William McAllan, Anna Molotoris, Francis McAllan, Clotilda Mooney, Katherine Haley, Virginia Rioux and Helen Kelly.

Vera was a proud, longtime resident of Norwood. She was a very active participant in community activities, including serving as President of the PTA, member of the Norwood Women’s Club and founding member of the Widow Lifeline. She was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Church, member of the Norwood Catholic Women’s Club and the Catholic Family Movement, which provided both spiritual and social support. Vera loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed.

Funeral Wednesday, Nov. 18, from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St., (Rt. 1A), NORWOOD, at 8AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 547 Washington St., Norwood at 9AM.

Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery, Norwood. Visiting hours are Tuesday 4-8PM at the funeral home.
