William Joseph Riley Jr.

RILEY, William J. Jr. of Norwood, January 22, 2012. Devoted husband of the late Katherine (Goodwin) Riley. Loving father of William Riley and his wife Maryellen of Westwood, Katherine Ann Reynolds and her husband John of South Hadley, Thomas Riley and his wife Doreen of Walpole, Gail Maloney and her husband Daniel of Walpole. Dear brother of John Riley of Providence and the late Catherine C. Hayhurst and Margaret Laffey. Also survived by ten grandchildren, nine great grandhildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St., (Rt. 1A) NORWOOD, Sat. Jan. 28 at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Timothy Church, 650 Nichols St., Norwood at 10 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment Highland Cemetery, Norwood. The family will receive visitors at the Funeral Home, Fri. Jan. 27, 4-8 PM. Mr. Riley graduated from Providence College in 1940 and attended Georgetown Law School from 1940 to 1941. He served in the U. S. Navy in World War II as a Commanding Officer LCI (L) and participated in Five Amphibious Assault Landings in the European Theatre. In 1946 he began a career with the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company and held a number of managerial and supervisory positions in traffic, training and plant activities. In 1982 he retired from the Company after thirty six years of service. In support of his community Mr. Riley has been an elected member of the Norwood Town Meeting since 1963. He is a dedicated and loyal member of the Providence College Presidents Circle.
