On January 25, 2024, Alice “Sharon” Rohrbaugh passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Sharon is the beloved wife of Larry Rohrbaugh: loving daughter of the late Alfred and Florence “Peg” Speca, devoted mother of Troy Rohrbaugh and wife Amy, and Tracy Collins and husband Mike; cherished grandmother of Ryan and Cecilia Collins, Alexander and Garrett Rohrbaugh; sister-in-law of Mark Rohrbaugh.
Sharon was born on July 18, 1943, in Baltimore. She grew up in the Highlandtown neighborhood graduating from Patterson High School in 1961. After graduating from Towson Teachers College in 1965 with a degree in history she went on to teach high school social studies at Dundalk Senior High. She was introduced to Larry by his sister at a church dance in Orangeville while in high school. They were ultimately married in 1964 and spent 59 1/2 amazing years together. She gave birth to Troy in 1970 and Tracy three years later. In addition to managing the lives of her husband and children she found time to fall in love with tennis. She pursued both playing and watching with true devotion. She has passed this passion on to the rest of the family especially her grandchildren. Sharon was also a proud member of Homemakers Club for nearly 50 years. Sharon was always up for an adventure. This included learning to ski in her 40’s, backpacking across Europe, driving all night to Italy, exploring rural China, booking hot air balloon rides and countless others.
Sharon spent her life surrounded by friends and family. She was there for all of them in the good and bad times, an excellent listener with kindness and patience that seemed to have no limit. One of her most important goals was to create bonds between family and friends that would last a lifetime. Nothing made her happier than having a house full of people. She graciously hosted family events in order to bring everyone together. She was a second mother to many of her children’s friends. For those who knew her best they loved not just the deep caring she felt for others, but the quiet determination to keep going forward no matter the circumstance. It was this trait that was so obvious over the last few months. She quieted those around her by simply asking them to focus on 80 years lived to the fullest with a loving husband, cherished children and grandchildren and a multitude of close family and friends.
