Dear Gary, John and Carol,
I am sorry we were unable to attend her service.  She has been in our thoughts and prayers.  Ned and I raised a sambucca glass to Heaven.  It must be quite a party up there now that the Culottas are together.  She will be missed but always remembered.  We are sad for your loss and send our love to you and your families. Aspiring to Auntie

We hear cliches about life over and over ... live life to its fullest ... be happy now ... you only go around once ... yada yada yada (that's not one :-) and yet these words repeated often enough become mere banter in our brains and seem to lose meaning.

How DO we actually live life to its fullest? How CAN we just be happy? Maybe it's by mimicking others who have it conquered already? Those who have made a deep impact on our hearts, souls, and psyches because of the way they live? 

One such LIVING LARGE example in my life - to which I aspire to emulate - is my Aunt Angie, who passed away this week on Tuesday, February 14. (Chose Valentine's Day to meet up with her 'sweetie Jay' in heaven!). 
Reflecting about this vibrant, vivacious and LIVELY woman who has been ever-present thru my entire life, I   conjure up a fun-loving, eternally smiling, funny, effervescent and infectious personality. You know the type ... the best party person with the lampshade on her head ... the expert joke-after-joke teller, making it happen, active in everything, never stopping, always moving, mesmerizing her "audience" and keeping us in stitches. She walked with a spring in her step. She was the first one on the dance floor. 

Oh, that Aunt Angie - what a jolly card!

Aunt Angie enjoyed a career; raised three splendid children, 11 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren; and continually "wowed" us as youngsters and young adults as we witnessed her and Uncle Jay traverse the world. Those two went EVERYWHERE! And I mean exotic destinations. She carted home many splendid souvenirs, china dolls, and special mementos to prove it - she had an attic FULL of goodies. We loved going upstairs to Aunt Angie's attic to see her treasures, in her skinny Little Italy rowhome with the spiral staircase.

A dark blue wooden box from Sorrento sits on my dresser to this day; an item she presented to me after one of her trips to Italy. Each time I lift its lid to hear the Italian music tinkle, I am reminded of my personable and fun-loving Aunt Angie. I remain in awe of her happy, full, and large life; through her beloved St. Leo's Italian Catholic parish in Little Italy, Baltimore and the Sons of Italy Little Italy Lodge; as a mother, nonna, bisnonna, aunt, sister, friend, and as the loving and devoted wife to her quiet and calm husband, married for 64 years, who usually couldn't get in a word edgewise, while she stole the show. 

Yes, people like Angie set the tone for others to mimic - a human being that had decided to live her life FULL of joy, laughter, love, fun, and genuine living. There is no doubt she is dancing up a storm in the skies with Uncle Jay, donning a lampshade on her curly head, and holding a microphone in her hand, attending the biggest cherubic party. 

You go, Aunt Ang, you go. Thank you for inspiring us to live life to its very very fullest.

I picture her up in heaven with Uncle Jay, her brothers and her beautiful sister, Mary, and her many family members and friends.  I know my dad is very happy to have his dance partner back! I remember her when we were growing up most lovingly as a dear friend of our mother, Margaret Pente.
