On September 1, 2018, Cheryl Anne Jones (nee Busick) passed away. She was the beloved wife of James E. Jones, Jr.; devoted mother of Nicholas Jones, and Joshua P. Jones and his wife Jean; loving grandmother of Branson E. Fury, Kylee E. Fury, and Edith M. Jones; dear sister of Deborah Kehne and her husband Ronald, John S. Busick and his wife Lisa, and the late Michael Busick, and Cecilia Gettier; cherished sister-in-law of Laurie Jones, Cathy Jones, and Gregory Jones and his wife Kathy. Cheryl is survived by many loving extended family members and friends.
Cheryl Anne Jones (nee Busick) was born on August 25, 1952 in Baltimore to parents John and Gertrude (Trudy) Busick. She was the fourth of six children. Cheryl grew up in the Northwood community and attended St. Matthew School and went on to graduate from Northern High School. Upon graduation, Cheryl went to work at Maryland National Bank in Baltimore in the International Division. She was the first female to become an officer in that division.
On July 14, 1973, she married her high school sweetheart, James Edward Jones, Jr. just celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary. Cheryl and Jim were blessed with two wonderful sons: James Nicholas and Joshua Paul. They lived in Perry Hall for 10 years and then moved to Fallston where they have lived for over the past 30 years.
Cheryl and Jim have three beautiful grandchildren: Branson, Kylee and Edie whom they just adore and who adore them. Children just seemed to naturally be drawn to Cheryl. She had such a warm smile and giving nature. Not only her own children or grandchildren, but all of her nieces, nephews and the children of friends as well were very much a part of Cheryl’s life.
Over the years, Cheryl has been the consummate hostess. Many a dinner, party or gathering was held at the home of Cheryl and Jim Jones. Her parties were such a source of joy and love. Everything Cheryl did, she did with much love and enthusiasm. Trips to Ocean City, Deep Creek, Bethany Beach, West Virginia, New York and South Carolina were some of the few that Cheryl and Jim enjoyed with their family and friends---again, Cheryl taking charge and being sure everyone had a wonderful time.
In 2009, Cheryl was diagnosed with breast cancer and has valiantly fought this disease for the past 9 years. She was determined it was not going to interfere with the way she lived her life to the fullest…and it did not. While undergoing the numerous treatments over the years, Cheryl continued to enjoy every moment she could with the people she loved: her family and friends.
In fact, just this past Saturday, August 25, 2018, was Cheryl’s 66th birthday. As weak and tired as Cheryl was, she and Jim decided to have a “birthday celebration”. So many family members and friends stopped by that day to see Cheryl and celebrate her. Her smile radiated the room and she continued to be the consummate hostess, checking to be sure everyone was okay and if they needed anything. Cheryl was someone who wanted everyone to enjoy themselves.
Now, Cheryl also had a stubborn and tough side to her. She enjoyed a “good argument”. However, what she did not enjoy and would not tolerate was someone ---anyone, being disrespected by another person. No matter who it was. Everyone was to be treated with respect and if they were not, Cheryl would step in and say something.
Cheryl was an incredible worker. Whether it was at the bank in her younger days, at home when she married and became a homemaker, volunteering at her sons’ schools, or later when she took a job at Safeway for a few years. She had an amazing work ethic. The job was to be done “the right way”, and it did not matter how long that took.
Cheryl also had an inner strength about her. This proved to serve her well in fighting her cancer. She very rarely complained about her disease and was determined to keep the faith. Cheryl was an extremely faithful person. Over these last couple of months, she was so grateful to the visits from Father Jerry and the opportunity to continue to receive the Eucharist.
Cheryl’s faith, family and friends were her greatest joys! Cheryl brought so much too so many people, and she will be truly missed. We do know, though, that Cheryl is smiling down from above and is now our special guardian angel to all.
