On April 24, 2011, Doris Lee Fisher passed. She was an extrodinary individual, to say the least. She was the only child of Edna Fisher and Roland Fisher of Canton. Attended Canton Elementary #P.S. 230 and Patterson high School, where she graduated with honors, including a gold medal in French, the American Legion Scholarship Award, numerous athletic awards, etc. In her senior year, she was the Editor-in-Chief of the Patterson Press. She attended Towson State Teachers College and graduated with honors in 1956. While at Towson State, she was a member of the National Geographic Fraternity, Future Teachers of America and Treasurer of the Women’s Residential Council.
Upon graduation in 1956, her first teaching assignment was P.S. 239 Brooklyn, Holabird Elementary and finishing her career at Hazelwood elementary. During those years, she received her Master Degree in Education at Johns Hopkins University, however she was most proud of her 14 student teachers that she truly mentored during her career. Doris loved to travel. Her summers were filled with domestic and international excursions.
She was very active in her church. She was a member of the choir and a second choir outside of the church. She is survived by her cousins, Arthur J. Moskal of Rehobeth Beach Delaware and Roland J. Moskal of Canton, Baltimore. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers assoc. in her name. Interment will be private.
