Memories of Ed, my kind, gentle brother in law

My sister introduced me to Ed some forty years ago. He always struck me as a quiet, humble guy, easy to be around, very slow to anger and quick with a smile.  There were times when he seemed so calm to me, I wanted to check and see if he had a pulse.  He was perfect for Deb in that respect.  Like all couples, Deb and Ed faced their share of challenges, but through it all, Ed managed to keep Deb calm in the knowledge that together they would work everything out.  

Ed had the wonderful ability to see the good in others.  People were comfortable in his presence because they could always be themselves.   No one ever feared being judged by him, or criticized.  He liked everyone just as they were!  He had the gift of never taking himself too seriously.  Over the years, there were countless times that we all shared a good laugh at his expense – I might add, he usually laughed the hardest of all!  Ed mastered the quality of “live and let live”.  He did what he wanted to do and he extended that opportunity to others.  He was always very generous in sharing Deb with family and friends.

Ed excelled at what mattered most by living a charitable life. We will always love him for taking such good care of his wife and son.  Ed, thanks for the wonderful memories.  We all miss you!  Love, Kathleen

Deb and Chris, I am so grateful to God for giving Ed such a wonderful family and life with you. I loved looking out for my little brother when we were young and was glad I could be there to help out during his illness.  I am so happy to be part of your family and please know I am here for you. I know Ed will be watching over you too.  He was  my younger brother but I looked up to him as a big brother, such a kind and generous heart.  I miss you, Ed.

I will always remember Uncle Ed anytime I go to Ocean City. We had so many great memories growing up with our family at the beach every summer. When I was a teenager, he and Aunt Deb were so generous with letting me stay with them for the week. He introduced me to the brilliant combination of eating hard chocolate candies on the beach after swimming in the ocean. I especially love the story of the parking spot thief. Catie and I were riding in the back of the James' minivan. Uncle Chris was driving and Uncle Ed had the front seat. We were attempting to park in the inlet lot and spend the evening on the boardwalk. Like every year, the first week in August means that half of Maryland is in Ocean City. As a result, there was no parking. Anywhere.  Uncle Chris was finally able to find a person who was leaving. As he was waiting for the spot, another car snuck in and stole the spot from us. Uncle Chris had steam coming off of him. He said to Uncle Ed "Ed, roll down your window and tell them off." Uncle  Ed calmly rolled down his window and said "Hey! That wasn't very...kosher."  Uncle Chris drove off in hysterics and the phrase became one for the books.  Uncle Ed's response was the most intimating he could come up with. It is a true example of his kind and gentle spirit.

Uncle Ed, you never made anyone feel anything but good about themselves so I think that says you were the best guy around. Your gentleness, kindness and sense of humor will be forever missed. May you rest in peace

My Uncle Eddie lost his battle with cancer on Sunday, and will be laid to rest tomorrow. You could travel the earth, and would not find a nicer and more kind-hearted human being than him. Out of the hundreds of family parties, and family trips to OC, I do not have even one memory of him in a bad mood. Please pray for my family, especially my wonderful and loving Aunt Debbie and my cousin who Chris. Sometimes things happen and we will never understand why. One last thing... Cancer sucks!!!!

How can I begin to describe my life with Ed.  We met in 1970 in OC, MD.  From the beginning I really liked him and we began dating a few years later and were eventually married in 1975.  Sure we had our up and downs like most marriages, but he was the most kind, considerate gentle man I ever knew.  He was always protecting me from worry and was my steadier. (I can be a little hyper, LOL). I cannot imagine my life without him in it, but God for a reason I will never understand decided it was time for him to go home. I know he will continue to take care of me and Chris.  Until we meet again, my dear.  I will always love you.  Hugs & Kisses from me to you.

I cannot begin to imagine the pain of losing someone as close as Ed was to you, but I do understand and appreciate the love and devotion that the two of you had during your life together. We have to cherish all of the wonderful memories that we experience with our loved ones and allow those memories to keep our hearts warm when life causes us to be separated. You and Chris were blessed to have such a man as Ed in your lives, and I'm sure you will cherish his memory forever.

Oh Debbie, I am so sorry to hear this about Ed. I can't even comprehend  what you are going through.  All I can hope is that God will keep you and Chris in his blessings and that Ed is at peace.  I recently saw a memory card that said your date of birth is your "born into life" date, the date of death is your "born into eternal life" date.  It gave me comfort to think of death that way.  I hope it gives you some comfort as well.

To Chris and Aunt Debbie: you're both in my thoughts and prayers today - and always. If you need to laugh, as I do sometimes on days like this, read on. This morning I realized that, from now on, whenever I am first in line at a buffet (which is often) I will always, always think of Uncle Eddie. And I'll smile.

So terribly sorry for the loss of your beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.  Looking at all the beautiful photographs I see a man who has touched so many lives with his humor,  gentleness and love. I am so sorry about Edwards passing.  He was a quiet, noble and brave man to have fought this terrible disease.  He was a reflection of your parents who I admired so much, and if know he was welcomed home by them with open arms.  The Raven's won that game for him yesterday.
