

John Norman Schmitt passed away on November 8th, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Towson, MD. Known as Norman, he was born in Baltimore, Maryland on September 18, 1929 to John N. Schmitt Sr. and AnnaMae Schmitt. He was such a cute baby that he won the title of Sealtest Milk’s baby of the year in 1929!
He attended Loyola High School and played football and lacrosse for the Dons; and went on to graduate from Loyola College in 1951. He was then drafted into the Army, and completed 2 years of service and was stationed in various locations including Hawaii and Germany.
His career included roles as an Industrial Engineer, and Industrial Relations Manager, and he retired as a Plant Manager for Anchor Hocking Glass Company.
He is survived by his wife Alma, of 62 years, and his daughter Ann Mead, son Steven Schmitt, and daughter-in-law Carole Schmitt. He is predeceased by his son David Schmitt. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Jack, Allison, Natalie, Andrew, and Eric. Norman was the 2nd of 4 children. He was predeceased by his sister Dolores and is survived by his brother Gerald and his brother Dennis and sister-in-law Diane. He is also survived by numerous cousins, and nephews & nieces who considered him the best uncle.
He was an original season ticket holder when the Baltimore Colts came to town, and later enjoyed watching Ravens games with his family. Norman was Mr. Fix-It be it plumbing, electrical, mechanical, painting, etc. He was very generous with his time & talent. In his spare time, he was busy with his kids/grandchildren/nieces & nephews in attending and volunteering in their activities and sporting events. Later he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Alma and participating in American Legion and VFW activities.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the Schimunek Funeral Home, Inc. (9705 Belair Road Nottingham, MD 21236) on Friday, November 12, 2021 from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 8420 Belair Road, Baltimore, Maryland 21236 at 10:00 a.m. Interment in St Joseph Catholic Church and Cemetery,.
