Born in September 8th, 1946 in Brunswick Maryland to Audrey and Austin Myers. Passed away surrounded by his family on August 6th, 2023 near his most recent home in Frederick Maryland.
Survived by his children Keith, Joshua, Rebecca, and Ryan. Grandchildren Izzy and Luke. Sisters Kathy & Kris. Ex wives Paula, Lauri, and NJ. As well as many other extended family members, friends and colleagues.
Kim’s life was long and storied and full of adventure. He served in the Navy during Vietnam and was lucky to spend his time touring around tropical paradises which was ideal since he was a pacifist. His favorite story of his time was when he tried to find a woodcarver, the story is a little naughty to tell in public but if you know you know.
He stumbled into his career when a friend invited him to come and take a test at Westinghouse. He did exceptionally well on this testing and it landed him at job. This was different than his dream job of becoming a Math’s teacher. Taking this role would allow him to assist both of his sisters with their dreams. After a 22 year career at Westinghouse where he moved from Program Manager to a Division manager, he moved from role to role every few years. He ended his career at ATS as one of their Presidents.
He loved to travel and did so all the way until the pandemic grounded him. He was lucky that both his work and his life always provided opportunities to see new places. There are thousands of photos of the places he’s visited and mountains he’s peed on to claim as his own. Just in case you didn’t know he insisted that Mt Rainier was his mountain due to the number of hikes and times he claimed the territory.
He was an avid explorer of family history past and present and was a man who loved a tale to tell or listen to one. Many hours were spent in childhood on the weekends driving from one location to another doing grave rubbings while he would take photos of the headstones of a family member gone by. Being an east coast family on the second set of colonizing ships gives you a lot of history. I believe he said at one point that he got the family traced in portions back to 1300, I’m not sure if he ever made it earlier. He wrote some stories which hopefully one day we can share out with others.
Last but not least his family and friends were the world to him. He loved to spend time with those he loved and better yet if he could share a loud and boisterous laugh or a mischievous smile.
As you recall your memories of Kim these are some of the things he would want us to do to remember him:
Love everyone deeply and passionately
Laugh often and loudly
Travel and broaden your horizons
Read and be curious
