After a long illness, on Saturday, March 15, 2025, Leroy F. Gross, (Lee), entered the gates of Heaven. He was the beloved husband of Janet Gross, (nee Burk) for over 54 years. Loving father of Matthew (Melanie), Timothy (Christina) and Andrew (Jaya) Gross and cherished Poppie to Jonah, Micah, Brayden, Samarah, Nehemiah, Ameliah and Dylan Gross. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, James & Mary Gross.
Lee grew up in the Essex area of Baltimore County. He spent most of his life as an auto mechanic. He enjoyed watching the Ravens and especially the Orioles. In 2019 he and Janet had the opportunity to attend Spring Training in Sarasota, Florida and had another trip planned for this March which had to be cancelled due to his illness. He also attended games in many minor league ball parks. They enjoyed traveling to many places including Disneyworld, Niagara Falls, Dollywood, Graceland, Stone Mountain, GA, The Ark and Creation, Football Hall of Fame, Baseball Hall of Fame, Erie Canal, and Gettysburg to name a few. Every year they enjoyed the show at Sight & Sound and attended numerous Gospel Concerts. He also enjoyed watching old television shows like Walker, Texas Ranger and Colombo.
When his sons were young he went on many camping trips with the Boy Scouts, he survived Icicle and a flash flood on the C & O canal. He enjoyed coaching his son's baseball teams. He also enjoyed spending time with his family playing games, watching movies, having dinner or just hanging out together.
His seven grandchildren were the joy of his life. He and Janet would travel to see them-if they were close by or far away in New York or Virginia, attending school and church events, birthday parties and graduations or just spending the weekend with them. Each year some of the grandchildren would go on vacation with them, be it traveling to PA to ride several trains, going on a paddle boat on Susquehanna River, going deep underground in a coal mine, or going to Great Wolf Lodge- even though he couldn’t join in the fun. He loved having them around.
Lee loved the Lord and attended New Life Baptist Church in White Marsh where a viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 from 5-8pm and from 10-11 am prior to the service at 11am on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. Interment will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contribution can be made to New LIfe Baptist Church Building Fund, 5501 Lloyd Ave., White Marsh, MD 21162 or online at newlifebaptistmd.com.
