Grandmom, it has been a little over six months since you left us and I still struggle with my loss everyday. I wished so badly that I could have spoke at your funeral but what my heart desired my body could not stand. Some days I wake up and you have just left my dreams, other days I wake and you are my inspiration to start the day and some days I wake up and I'm just empty with out you here. Some times I talk to you even though I know you are not there and I am comforted. There is a huge part of me that does not believe in an after life but if there is anything after this world I hope you hear these words and know how much you are loved. I will think of you until the day I die and I will remember you as simply one of the most beautiful people that I have ever known. Our relationship started off with you holding me as a baby and although I don't remember I'm sure you brushed my hair and rubbed my fingers with your gentile hands like you did when I was a child. As far back as I can remember you were simply my happiness. I would look forward every weekend when we would come over to your house and best of all was when you would watch me for my parents and I would have you for hours all to myself. I remember sitting with you, listening as you spoke and me being just enamored with the sound of your voice. Your voice was sweet, soft, and calming. I remember watching you cook for me with the skill that only comes with a lifetime of knowledge. I loved watching you make homemade sauce and was so happy when I got to help you put in the garlic or stir the pot. Looking back I almost feel silly to be so happy to do such things but as a child i was so excited. I know now, now that you are gone that I was not just stirring a pot or adding garlic but I was building memories that would have to last me a life time after you were gone. I remember the day I was running in your kitchen and slipped and hit my head on the corner of the counter. I was bleeding and you made me feel better. I still have the scare and sometimes I think that it is the physical proof that you existed and that you loved me. Most of all I remember us dancing and your beautiful laughter. I remember you putting on one of your old records in the dinning room of old blue eyes "you absolutely loved that man" and me twirling you around as you laughed. You belted out each laugh like you would burst if it did not come out of you and you laughed so often that your tenderheartedness saturated everything around you.  How could I have known that one day these memories would be all I would have left of you. I could never have imagined as my younger self as I spun you around that one day I would dance with you for the last time. sometimes I cry a little, other times I weep, and when I can sob no more I simply ache. As you got older and started to get sick I slowly, over the years lost you one memory at a time. How tall are you? You're handsome. Where do you live honey? these were the conversations that we were reduced to having. Sometimes I could laugh and other times I could only cry when you were not looking. Even at this point when your mind had lapsed your kindness never did and anyone who met you at least once knew true compassion. I know how angry it made you when you could not remember something, but please don't worry, I will take your memories with me, you may have forgot but I remember. As your time grew short your eyes grew cloudy and your words grew week. You slept most of the day and when you woke you would always want something sweet. The last words I ever heard you speak were words I heard countless times throughout my life "Mangiare tutte cose" (eat everything) and although I doubt you knew what you were saying there are no other words that would have been more appropriate. A visit to your house was not complete until you had made me eat something regardless if i wanted to eat or not!.   Your skin and hands were just as soft to me as the day we met and you never lost your beauty to me even though your body wasted away. At the end, although it was the hardest thing I have ever had to do I'm so happy I was there for you. You slipped away quietly in the arms of your husband. You slipped away surrounded by your children and grandchildren. You slipped away but your love will always be remembered.

It has been almost six months since you left this earth and I still cannot even think about it with out feeling a crushing feeling in my heart and nausea in the pit of my stomach. I sit here and stare at your wedding ring and  think that  ring was the beginning of your life with grandpa.... and now your life is over. I cant help wishing that I had more time to spend with you. I can not begin to express what you mean to me. You were the light and the love that made our family what it was. Now that your gone everything has changed. Its like we just cant hold it together anymore. And I'm angry.....
I'm angry that we didn't have more time, I'm angry that we had to watch you wither away psychologically, Im angry that you were so confused and afraid, Im angry that in the end you felt like you had to pretend to know your family. I'm angry that your gone and there are so many people left here that could never even live up to a fraction of who you were.
I guess I should just feel thankful that I even got the chance to know you and to see you dance. I should be thankful that you had the chance to meet my daughter and she got to meet you... even though your disease wouldn't let you know her at the time. I should be thankful that I was even born into your family and got the chance to be your grand daughter.... and I do feel all those things but I'm still angry that your not here and I'm angry that you wont be at my wedding and I'm angry that you'll never really know my daughter and shell never really know you..... because all the stories that I could tell could never really do you justice. You will always be the best grammy and person I have ever met and Iove you with everything that I am.I hope its true that we can meet again. I miss you so much.

Grandma there seems to be no words that can exspress how much you ment to me. You were the kindest most gentle person I have ever had the pleasure to know. Always smiling, dancing and so happy. I want to strive to be more like you.  I love you so much and will never stop missing you .I  hope you are at peace and are so happy to be with your family.
