Michael E. “Mike” Bonner, 67, passed away on March 30, 2026. He was the treasured son of the late Eugene and Shirley Bonner; dear brother of Patricia McElroy (Thomas), Timothy P. Bonner (Jane), and Sharon L. Nicolary; loving uncle of Maggie (Jake), Molly (Ryan), Elaina, Annemarie, Estela, Juan Jose, and Federico; and adored great-uncle of Henry. He was also deeply loved by Kathy Harold (Mark) and Jim “Jimmy” Bonner (Julia), who were like siblings to Mike and lifelong friends. Mike cherished his nieces and nephews, delighting in their lives and celebrating their achievements. Special appreciation is extended to his caregiver Ester Njoroge, his best friend Bob Krebs (Cindy), and the wonderful nurses, caregivers, doctors, and staff at Oak Crest who provided him with the best care and friendship throughout his time there.
Mike began his working life at St. Anthony of Padua in Gardenville at age 13 as a phone sitter. He attended Archbishop Curley High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Towson University. Mike also taught CCD at St. Anthony’s and Shrine of the Little Flower, sharing his knowledge and care with many students.
He discovered a love for retail early in his career, finding joy in working with people and managing operations. This passion carried through his time at Read’s Drug Store and Rite Aid, and later at Tim’s Automotive as an accountant and team member. He also spent many years at Westinghouse in Baltimore, building a long and accomplished career.
Upon retiring, Mike moved to Oak Crest, where he found new purpose and joy working with people at the Treasure Chest. Managing online sales and office operations at the volunteer-run shop allowed him to combine his love of helping others with his talent for organization and management. He loved his team at the Treasure Chest like family, and they were great friends who supported him with care and laughter. Everyone at Oak Crest knew and loved Mike, and his presence there made a lasting difference.
Mike was known for his humor, generosity, and warmth. Despite facing numerous health challenges, he approached life with grace and perseverance. He was especially devoted to his family, always making sure that his elderly aunts and grandparents were cared for with deep compassion, dignity, and love—a quiet but powerful reflection of the kind of man he was.
He was a devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend, bringing laughter, kindness, and love to everyone around him. Mike’s life was a testament to the difference one person can make, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
