After more than 90 spectacular years on this earth, Myron “Jim” Eldridge Snyder joined the love of his life, Barbara Ann Taylor Snyder, in eternal peace on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. Jim, the oldest of three boys, was born in Baltimore, Maryland on August 15, 1933, to Eunice (nee Jones) and Eldridge Snyder. After graduating from Sparrows Point High School, Jim worked for Bethlehem Steel until he joined the Army in 1953 and was deployed to Korea. Upon his return, he met and fell in love with Barbara, and they wed in 1958, moving to Perry Hall soon thereafter. In 1964, they welcomed their son, Stephen Myron, followed by their daughter, Susan Jane in 1966. Family was the most important thing to Jim and Barbara, which was reflected in their involvement with their son and daughter’s school, sports, and summer activities. When their children grew into adulthood, they embraced the addition of a daughter-in law, two grandchildren and a son-in-law to the family. After retirement, Jim and Barb were able to enjoy travelling to various locations in the United States, as well as abroad. In addition, Jim, together with his son, Stephen, built and flew remote controlled model airplanes, a hobby that they began together in 1977. He was a member of both the Sunday Flyers and Swan Harbor RC Club, of which Jim is an honorary lifetime member. Jim was also a talented craftsman, creating various furniture pieces over the years beginning with a beautiful walnut secretary as his senior project in high school, followed by numerous pieces including heirloom rocking horses and doll beds for his granddaughters. He also created a 1970’s doll house for his daughter, which was later enjoyed by his granddaughters. All these pieces remain in the family to be enjoyed by future generations. Most of all, Jim treasured the time spent at the family cabins on Broad Creek, where he fished, swam, and boated with his growing family. You would often find Jim laughing and joking, surrounded by all “his girls” on most summer weekends.
Jim is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Andrea (nee Smith) Snyder of Bel Air, MD and their two children, Stephanie Snyder of White Marsh, MD and Samantha Snyder of St. Petersburg, FL, together with his daughter and son-in-law, Susan (nee Snyder) and Wayne Taylor of St. Petersburg, FL. In addition, he will be greatly missed by his “second daughter” of almost 30 years, Donna Kemp of Milton, DE. He is also survived by his brother William Russell Snyder of Ocean City, MD and brother Gary Emmett Snyder and his wife, Jean “Skoots” Snyder of Sparrows Point, MD. He was fortunate to spend his final years at a senior living facility where he spent much time with his loving cousin Jackie (nee Hennessey) Binetti who he also leaves behind. There are too many nieces, nephews, and friends to mention, but Jim loved them all; he had a profound effect on many people, including many of his children’s and grandchildren’s friends. He will be missed but certainly not forgotten.
A Celebration of Life is planned for all friends and family on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 2pm-5pm at Swan Harbor Farm located at 401 Oakington Road, Havre de Grace, Maryland. Please RSVP to [email protected] by Tuesday, April 9, 2024, to let the family know you plan to attend.
