It’s been 6 years now and it’s still hard… we all miss you.   There’s so much to say but I can’t find the right words. Keep sending us signs that you’re nearby.  Give mom and dad hugs from me. xoxo

I often think of sweet Nick. I hope his family, especially, Shelby, and his loving girlfriend are well and healing. Nick will never be forgotten 🩷🙏🏻

Nicky,  it’s been 3 years since you’ve gained your angel wings… still miss you everyday… but I know in my heart you’re happy and whole again.  I have no doubt there are a lot of shenanigans going on up there… give mom and dad kisses for me.  

Thinking a lot about all the great times we had at Towson State from baseball to the PE club and as colleagues in BCPS — PE, Computer Tech, Shady Spring and Cisco.  Miss you lots!

I was very saddened to hear this news.  Nick and I were college roommates for two years at WVU.  We shared a lot of fun times during that period, all of which bring a smile to my face.  He was without a doubt one of the kindest, most caring and most accepting people I've ever known.  Reading the other memories on this page about how giving Nick was doesn't surprise me at all. That was just his nature.  I'm sure he touched many lives in a very positive way, including my own, and will be missed by many.  My condolences and prayers to his family.

One of the first things I liked about Nick was his faith in Christ. He also was attractive, with kind eyes, a warm smile, and an easy-going personality.
I liked that he was devoted to family. But the greatest things that attracted me to Nick were his kindness and his big heart for others. We shared a passion for teaching and I saw that he loved kids as much as I do!  He would do anything for his students!
Nick reminds me a lot of my dad.  Like my dad, he was a great listener, very encouraging and supportive. He was my greatest cheerleader since my dad passed away. Nick showed unconditional love and acceptance to everyone he met, including me. 
Other qualities Nick shared with my dad was a giving spirit and a servant’s heart!  He powerfully demonstrated that to me in December of 2016 when I had major ACL surgery. I couldn’t put weight on my leg for 1 month.  Nick stayed with me for several days to take care of me.  He took me to surgery, cooked for me, and was there for me when I woke up, was in pain, and doubted if I would walk or bend my knee again. I am forever grateful for his tender care!  
Another cherished quality in Nick was his humble, kind attitude.  He didn’t like people praising him and was quiet about his service to others.  
He wasn’t one to preach his faith. Instead, he believed in living it out with actions that spoke louder than his words!  What a legacy and example he has left for us to follow. I will forever treasure the time I had with him.  His friendship and influence has made me a better person. 
Nick was the real deal.  He had a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and it was his heart’s desire for you to know and follow Jesus as well.  
I love you Nick and will miss you and your wonderful hugs! I do not say “goodbye” to you but rather, “see you later.” It has been a privilege to be your beloved girlfriend, closest companion, and sweetheart! You were a blessing to me.

If you were looking for Nicky at a family gathering, you would probably find him with the kids. He was always willing to play cards or games with his nieces, nephews and daughter. 

Uncle Nicky always put his friends and family first. He truly loved us all. We miss him so much.

Uncle Nicky always found ways to bond with me. He supported me through sports, schoolwork, and overall becoming a better man. He could always make everyone in the room laugh because of his great sense of humor. Although he wasn’t the most organized person, we all still loved him very much for who he was. Thanks for always making me smile Uncle Nicky, you will be greatly missed.

Mr. Coppolino was and forever will be one of the best teachers I have ever met. There was never a time where I questioned my abilities or accomplishments, because as a teacher, and mentor, he made sure I knew that he was proud of whatever I did. Even when I didn’t earn an award or achieve a goal he was still so proud. Not to mention, if it weren’t for him I wouldn’t have found my love for computers and cyber security and my pathway. He, also, made everyday worth coming to class for, and his jokes made even my worst days just a little bit better. I wish I could have known him longer, but what I’ve come to find out is how small the world is, because he worked at my elementary school, Carney. Although it was years before I went there, he impacted my life before I even knew it and he will countinute to impact my life. I am so grateful to have known him and been a student and friend of his. He truly was an amazing person.

My condolences are with the family. May he rest in peace. 

For 3 years, he taught me about DCOM through Netacad. He was always a kind teacher who helped me with anything I found difficult. When I was informed of his passing, I was shocked and saddened. I had communicated with him only two weeks prior, and he was excited about my current progress. Mr. Coppolino was one of the main reasons I've managed to excel in my major, Information Systems Security. I will miss him greatly, and I am incredibly grateful for all his support.

I had Mr. Coppolino as my teacher since I was a freshman up until junior year in high school, because of cyber security/networking magnet program. He’s the kindest. He’s not just my teacher but also a mentor. He sparked my interest in technology, and now I am pursuing it as my college and future career! He treated us/me as if we’re his family. He would always listen to my rants and problems about life in general and would always give awesome advices, plus the jokes and humor. He believed in me. He trusted me with many things in class, including designing his classroom. He would always talk about his daughter and how proud he was. He’s like a father to our whole class. I will be forever grateful that I had met Mr. Coppolino and was touched and inspired by his good soul.  I will miss his “dad jokes” and our class’ impromptu and pitched in pizza parties. Heaven has gained a good soul and kind heart. My condolences to the Coppolinos. Know that Mr. Coppolino has touched and inspired many people’s lives, and that will live forever.

I lost a great friend and brother-in-law.  Nicky was always there ready to help us with computer questions, family events, or watching his nieces and nephew when Mary Frances and I needed a date night.  He was a wonderful father, teacher and leader.  I will miss him dearly.  

To the Coppolino Family, my heart goes out to you over this tragic time.  My boyfriend Lou and I met Nick through Robin.  What an amazing guy!  His presence was so genuine- such an approachable man, with love, compassion, a good heart & ALWAYS willing to put others before himself.  During the time I lost my father, I was just getting to know Nick, and over the phone, Nick made a point to console me & make me feel better as best as one could be.  I remember thinking how special this was and will "always be".  Aside from this, Lou and I have had some pretty laid back & awesome times with Nick & Robin.  Lots of laughs and funny moments.  Lou just remembered the one time, in particular, at a restaurant outing, Nick telling Lou's children that Robin kept him in a cage, but let him out for the day to come to the restaurant.  The kids thought that was so funny!  The youngest had an inquisitive mind, but got the joke...lol.  Honestly,  if this were true, I think he would have liked to come out for a better dinner that day.  Nick, we will both miss your sense of humor and your comforting presence.  We both, however know, that as much as we wish you were here this summer for memories & beyond, God has ordained your one and only loving presence in heaven.  What a wonderful addition to the heavens above.  Love to you always & prayers to all those who know you. 

Nick and I are connected through Kim Mattera, my fiancé, and her love for the Coppolinos. They are  family to her and her family, the Lavallees. On the occasions I spent with him, like a very recent wedding in California, he was always thoughtful, engaging and a joy to be with. I wish we had many more times to share together.

Firstly, my heart goes out to the entire Coppolino family, as well as Uncle Nick's extended family of friends and work colleagues who are all hurting while they endure the loss of the wonderful soul and addition to humanity that Nicholas Coppolino was.

As many have already said, Uncle Nick was the embodiment of easy-going, loving, and kind.  It was right there in his eyes every time you looked at him, and he readily manifested it in his voice when he spoke.   There was never a question of whether he had compassion or empathy for others...he just exuded that aura.

Although I hadn't seen Uncle Nick for quite some, my memories of him enriching my childhood by way of taking me to box lacrosse games (which was the coolest for a young Maryland boy), babysitting me, hanging out and laughing (he did have a great laugh), or just talking sports....will always be fondly remembered.   

It's rare for one person to be so universally praised as a beacon of peacefulness, love, and kindness once they leave this world.  I can't think of a better legacy for one to leave.

May you rest in peace, Uncle Nicky....thank you for making the world a better place while you were here.  We all deeply appreciated your presence and contributions to our lives.

Nick was truly a nice man, teacher, coach, mentor and was willing to learn and teach whatever course he was asked to teach.  He was a real mentor to many students. He would almost always say yes when asked to do something even to a fault.  He was a good person to have working with you. God gave him a lot to deal with and he dealt with it with the utmost Grace.

So many memories of Nicky but a favorite was going to Box Lacrosse games in Philly with different friends & family when Nicky was the Assistant Trainor.
Nicky loved sports, watching, going or participating ( Orioles, Ravens, fantasy football, volleyball, track team, etc.)

Who would ever thought Nicky would become a Successful Teacher as when we were young, my sisters, Deanna & Reets & his sisters would help him with his homework that was due the next day..

He was also the best Dad to Shelby.

It's easy to honor Nicky, there are so many wonderful things to cherish about him. ( He was destined to be a cyber guy, being born in 1962, the year of John Glenn's first earth orbit, the Jetson's premiere on TV, the first James Bond film, and the Mariner 2 space probe passing by Venus and transmitting the first data from another planet.) Nicky was a cousin when we had none, a friend willing to be chased by MPs on a military base, a kid who didn't get carsick driving with Uncle Bill.  He was our constant for quiet, abiding care and passionate devotion to what mattered- Family, Teaching others, and Loving him some Shelby (his brightest light).  When you've done what is essential in your life, you get to go home. Blessed adventures await robotics and quizlet games in heaven. Well played Nicky, well played.  Love you.

I met Nicky 25 years old ago when my daughter Brandye came home from Carney Elementary telling me how cute her gym teacher was.  It was Nicky! My 9 yr olds first crush.  I was dating Jack Westermeyer, he and Nicky were friends.  We all had daughters so weekends were great.  Sleepovers, pool parties, bowling teams, white water rafting, softball games.  Fantasy football. Tailgating at the Ravens games.  Then one day Nicky wanted to take ballroom dance lessons and needed a partner.  So yes my mother Bobbye became his partner.  Oh yes Shelby remember the Holloween dance recital Nicky and my mom doing the monster mash.  Nicky you gave us unconditional LOVE always with a smile.  
We will miss your smile and laughter.  We send our love and prayers to Everyone Nicky touched.

So many memories of Nicky but just a few-  family outing to the National Zoo, Nicky was showered with elephant perfume.  Don't think elephants were his favorite animal after that.  We would go on blind dates together, should I say unsuccessful.  Although, Mac turned out to be a good friend.  Ping pong matches at Rickys parents house.  And who could forget the wild parties at Rickys townhouse (right Nancy).  He loved playing cards and pictionary with my grandmother (Aunt Olga) even if it was New Year eve. I believe someone had their truck towed away.  Always willing to help out even if spending night in hopes of getting glimpse of Aunt Margaret's ghost at the Hill residence.  Needless to say, everone else was too chicken to stay over night. We will all miss you Nicky, your voluminous smile, laughter and easy spirit.  May you rest in peace. I don't even know were or how to start. "Uncle Nick" wasn't my uncle but was the son of a loving and caring couple who were close friends with my grandparents. He was always fun loving, big hearted and had a great loveable deminor about him. I can't begin to express my remorse for his mother (Aunt Dot) daughter, sisters, family and students. We all lost a really great guy and an awesome man who touched many lives. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. 

Nicky was such a great guy & always smiling. I remember a few years back he asked me to a Raven game. We had the best time, lots of laughs, good food & Ravens win..miss not seeing you visit Cammaratas house when I am there!! 

I don’t even know where to start. Uncle Nicky, while he never matched and was the messiest person I knew, had the biggest heart. You didn’t know whether he would show up on time to any plans made or if his clothes would even match when he did, but the one thing we were always sure of was his love for us.  We miss you so much Uncle Nicky and know you are smiling down on us from heaven the same way you did when you were with us.

Cousin Nicky...all my life you have been Nicky...not Nick or Nicolaus...when I was 10 and now that I am 50...I will always remember you for your unconditional love, your compassion...your hysterical sense of humor...your goofiness.  What a wonderful father, bother and son.   I am so thankful that we recently reconnected ...so much fun with Robyn at Pammy’s wedding-thank you...thank you for loving my doggies!  I miss you. I know you are in the arms of your dad and favorite Aunt Joan.  Until we meet again Nicky. 

I met Mr. Coppolino in my networking class Sophmore year of high school and had him my junior year as well. He became my favorite teacher and had a huge impact on my life and academic career. He motivated me to do my best in each and every situation that I am faced with in life and I stay true to that each and every day still today. Mr Coppolino made my classmates and I feel like we were more then just students at school but a family, which goes to show that he had a huge heart. All in all, Mr Coppolino, you had the greatest impact on me in highschool, I followed my dreams and my heart because of you, which got me to where I am now, and I wish I had a chance to tell you that today. RIP, I’ll never forget you or the legacy you left behind for me and my fellow classmates. I’ll see you again one day but until then watch over me and stay in my heart.

I am so saddened by the loss of your son,  your boyfriend, your brother, your uncle, our friend. You are in my caring thoughts as we celebrate his life. We will truly miss this kind and fun-loving guy.  What other avid Raven fan would escort a Steeler fan to a Raven vs Steeler game year after year or drive across town to escort  an elderly aunt alumnae to her school function? Who else could be a true family man who always had time for all of us?  He was a treasure who touched our hearts. Someday we will remember Nicky with less sadness, more joy.  For today, just know that many people care about you and wish you comfort.


Reading through all of these posts, and viewing all the pictures, I know with certainty that Nick remained the genuinely kind and thoughtful guy that I knew in High School.   I was shocked and saddened to hear of his passing; he will be missed.   My sincere condolences to all of his friends and family and may God bless and comfort you.

I met Nick because he was on my freshman (his sophomore) floor at WVU.  He was always equally willing to pull pranks as to be the one they were pulled on.  Nice memories of rapelling at Cooper's Rock, fireworks in the dorm, etc.  He was with me when I met my wife of now 31 years, and smartly suggested then that we should go get pizzas and take them back to the dorm, and get to know them better.  Most of us only get to have a few 'really' close friends.  Nick didn't play by those rules.

Take care dude,  and keep 'em laughing until the rest of us get there.  Thanks to Nick's family for allowing us to be part of the extended clan.


When I was little, Dad took me to look at the stars. We sat in his Jeep and gazed at the beauty before us. 

Dad, just as a told you on your birthday, I hope you forever have the peace, joy, serenity, and happiness that I felt in that moment.  I love you and you will forever be with me. The more stories I hear, the prouder I am of you and your accomplishments. You touched the lives of countless people.

Nicky was a gentle little boy who grew into a gentle man.  He imparted the best of his parents and loved his daughter and sisters  all the days of his life.  We will miss him but know he is in God's arms forever.

Nicky - when you were first born, I cradled you in my arms, gazed into your eyes, loved you unconditionally.  You have given me so much love, joy, pride and laughter.    You are now in the arms of our Heavenly Father, and He now is holding you in His arms, gazing into your eyes and loving you unconditionally.  You are safely home.  You wrote in my mother's day card this year (& it was a GIANT SIZED CARD, I might add)  That I was the BEST mom a son could ever have and how blessed and lucky you were to have me as your mother.  Well my sweet baby boy, you are the BEST son a mother could ever have.  I was abundantly blessed and the luckiest mom in the world.  I love you. 

Nick was my big brother - my first words were "Nee Nee" (Nicky).   He called me "Baby" (until Denise came along 4 years later - and he had to learn how to say Mary Frances!)  I remember preschool with him.  In high school - I was known as "Nick's sister".  We ran track together - he was fast - I was not!  We went to WVU together - shared so many fun times there.  He started his career as a teacher and seemed to have found his niche.  Reading all the memories of his students has been so heartwarming.  He touched so many lives.  If you were Nick's friend, you were his family - and he held family in the highest regard.  He dearly loved his cousins, aunts, uncles, sisters, Robin and father.  He adored and cherished his daughter, Shelby.  He was a devoted son to our mom - visiting her as often as he could after school and on weekends.   He left his mark on this earth - hopefully, we all have a little piece of Nick in our hearts.  He was loving, kind, gentle and always put others first.  In the last year and a half, Nicky knew I was worried a lot - he would always say to me and I still can hear him saying  - Mary Frances, everything will be o.k. -   I love you and miss you already Nick.

I remember Nick from Carney Elementary. He was well liked by the kids and teachers. 

I've missed seeing Nick once he, with sadness, retired FRC Team 007.  In the FIRST Robotics family, he remains an important member and an example of the best of us - someone who made sacrifices for the sake of the kids on his team.  He loved his family and it is clear that his students and team members became like family.  I am sure I speak for many other team mentors and volunteers who had the pleasure of knowing Nick in saying that we mourn his loss, and are richer for having known him.

Mr. Coppolino was one of the best teachers I ever had.  He inspired me to find enjoyment in both robotics an cyber security. But he was more then just a mentor he was a great friend and i will miss him.

  Mr. Coppolino will be greatly missed.  He was a great mentor to our daughter, Hailey. Our family had expected another three years of interaction and laughs with Nick, but as we know , life is short and full of mystery.
  We are not surprised by to the outpouring of emotion and sadness from the community, friends, and those whom he encountered.
He was a person who cared greatly for the kids in his charge, their education, and life opportunities.  We are so happy to have met him.
Our thoughts and prayers go to his family and closest friends.

My family spent a lot of time with Mr. Coppolino during my son Joseph’s time at Parkville. He was a wonderful teacher and leader of their Robotics Team 
“Team 007”. He graciously allowed my 2 younger children to be part of the team family. He touched many lives.  Prayers to his family. Rest easy, Nick. 

Life sometimes gives you the privilege of being friends and  family with someone so easy to love, so effortless to be around, so kind, genuine and real -that you forget how rare a "gift" he was.  Nicky was our "gift"  who  left us way too soon.  May his family find comfort in the beautiful memories they shared, along with the knowledge that God has flung wide the gates of heaven and now holds him in His loving arms forevermore. Rest in peace my friend-I will miss you dearly.......

Even though Nick was my (soon to be) father in law, in truth he was the best father I ever had.  I love him, miss him, and thought I had many more years with him.

I have  good memories of Nick at Perry Hall  Senior High School. I especially remember 1980, the year we graduated. Nick, Jimmy Huber, and I would have arm wrestling competitions in the cafeteria at lunchtime. Nick was an outstanding person and friend.

I graduated from Parkville High School. Although I didn't have Mr. Coppolino as a teacher I got to know him through homeroom before classes would start. He was very funny, supportive, and caring about his students and for his job as a teacher in the cyber security pathway of the magnet program. He will be truly missed and I hope he is resting in peace. 

I am sorry to hear of Nick's passing.  We were on the same pool team together back in the early 2000's. He was so sweet, just an all around great guy. Rest easy old friend.  

I met Mr.Coppolino in my freshman year of high school but never knew him personally until I joined in his magnet completor at Parkville High. Mr.Coppolino was always supportive to me and pushed me to do my best. I was like a daughter to him. I still remember the last day of my junior year, the end of my completor, when he remarked myself and my fellow classmates as family. And I have always taken that to heart. Without his involvement in my life, I would not be where I am today and I could never thank him enough. I am sorry that I did not get to talk with him one last time and express how much he truly meant to me. But I am glad he went peacefully and he is no longer in pain. My condolences to his family and friends. Heaven is lucky to have such a kind, caring man. 

I worked with Nick at Shady Spring Elementary in the early 2000s.  Although we didn't see eachother often after he left, he remained a dear friend to me over the years and we'd always pick up right where we left off.  I haven't seen him since his dad's passing.  During our visit that night, he spoke of his beloved Shelby.  Oh, Shelby, how he loved you and how extremely proud you made him. Nick Coppolino was indeed one of the great ones!  He will be missed by many.  Rest easy, sweet man!  You'll always be in my heart.

My son Kenneth went to school today to learn he had lost one of his favorite teachers. It hurt him and he immediately called to check on me. You made education fun and my son learned alot from you. Condolences to your family, including the family of teachers, students, and administrators at Parkville. You will be missed. Family take solace in knowing that he was loved

Nick was a great colleague and friend, but even more than that he was an extraordinary human being.  I am extremely sad to hear of his passing.  My prayers and condolences to the family. 

One of the nicest teachers at Parkville. Always willing to help. And would always kick our butts on a video game. Sincere condolences to the family. He was great man and teacher.

Sorry to hear about Nick. He was a great guy, he visited me when I was recuperating at Stella Maris. He signed my heart they gave me . I subbed for him at Parkville High, he always left the best plans. I believe he was a great teacher, he will be missed.

I will always remember and treasure our special times together with the track team and the closeness that we all shared.
