Born on Cleveland Street in Baltimore, MD the youngest of eight children. Wade was the son of Risper Smith Dill and Marion “Bud” Dill. His father died when Wade was four years old and he was raised by the eldest of his six sisters, Elizabeth Dill Armiger and her husband Earl Armiger in Annapolis, MD. He had a happy childhood, graduated from Annapolis High School, and then went on to earn a Civil Engineering Degree from Johns Hopkins University, class of 1953. He served in the U.S. Army for two years, stationed in Fort Knox, KY. Then Wade returned to Baltimore and began his career with the Baltimore Gas & Electric Company which spanned 36 years, until his retirement in 1992.
Wade maintained many long friendships throughout his life, and adored spending time with his family. He was active in Fallston United Presbyterian Church, where he served on the session and as a trustee. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and enjoyed playing golf with friends, especially after retirement. Wade loved playing pool from a young age, and acquired a large billiard table from a Baltimore pool hall that was liquidating. He installed it in the basement of his Fallston home that he had finished himself; friends and family members spent many happy hours playing pool with him. He was an avid reader of history and was especially fond of putting jigsaw puzzles together. Wade had a “system” for puzzles.
Wade is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years Barbara Dallam Dill, to whom he was devoted. They met when he was a JHU student and she was training at the Union Memorial School of Nursing, and married on February 14, 1954. Wade was predeceased by his adopted son William Dill (Janet) of Havre de Grace, MD. He is survived by his children, Susan Detwiler (Jon) of Baltimore, MD, Amy Kraft (Michael) of Bel Air, MD, Martha Wortman (Kevin) of Woodbury, CT, and Douglas Dill (Kendra) of Severn, MD; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. “Grandad” will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Wade will be remembered during the Sunday church service on, June 1, 2025 at 10:30 A.M., at Fallston Presbyterian Church, 600 Fallston Road, Fallston, Maryland 21047. A luncheon will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
