

William A. (Bill) Colburn, Jr. passed into the arms of Jesus on Friday, January 1st, 2021. He leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years Mary (Liz) and devoted daughter Brenda Anderson (Fred). He will be greatly missed by his beloved grandchildren Erin Gardner (Benjamin), Samantha Hayes (Zach), Brittany Lopez (Jesus), Melissa Doyle (Larry), and David Anderson. He was also the dear pop-pop of great-grandchildren Brayden and Olivia Gardner, Jordyn Hicks, Gavin and Mateo Lopez, and Marley and Landon Doyle.
Bill also leaves behind sisters Geraldine Rynarzewski and Diane Simmons. He was preceded by sisters Carolyn Souders and Beverly Riden and grandson Matthew Hubbard.
Bill was born October 17, 1934 to William and Gertrude Colburn in the North Point Area of Baltimore County. He graduated from Dundalk High School in 1952 and then attended U of MD College Park. Deciding on a career change in 1958 Bill joined the Baltimore Police Dept., Eastern District. In 1992 he retired as a Major and Director of Communications. During his time as Director he was instrumental in implementing the 9-1-1 system for Baltimore.
After 32 years with BPD he retired but went to work for Baltimore County as Director of Communications for the next 8 years.
After retiring from Baltimore County Bill and the love of his life, Liz, enjoyed spending time in their O.C. Condo and taking over 40 cruises especially abroad. He will be missed by many friends and family members.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit at Schimunek Funeral Home Inc., 9705 Belair Rd. Nottingham, MD 21236, on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, from 4-7 PM and on Thursday, January 7, 2021, from 10AM- 12PM, where a Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery. Floral expressions are appreciated, also those who wish may make a memorial contribution in Bill’s name to Gilchrist Hospice, 11311 McCormick Rd, Suite 350, Hunt Valley, MD 21031.
