Bill Huppert, age 92, passed away peacefully at Gilchrist after a stroke. Born in Washington DC to William E. and Amelia (nee Pflugrad) Huppert. Bill grew up in Baltimore and on the Middle River (“the Shore”), with his beloved family and the Chesapeake Bay. He leaves behind brothers Richard Huppert (Dot) and Doug Huppert (Bonnie), and sister Joyce Marani (and late Albert). He was married to his first love, Zenia (nee Jarema) for 70 years. He was a wonderful father to three wildly different children: Andrea Huppert Soukup (Jerry), Jill Huppert (Brian Volck), and Mark Huppert (Lisa). He adored his grandchildren: Peter Volck, Maria Volck, William Volck (Abby Chermely) and Leah Glace (Thomas). Retired after 32 years with Baltimore County schools, Bill was a consummate teacher and conservationist. He worked tirelessly to improve the Bay, building artificial reefs, spearheading the MD Artificial Reef Initiative and establishing the MD Saltwater Sportfishing Association scholarship foundation after retirement.
