Maribeth “Betsy” Gleeson, 69, died unexpectedly at her home in Novato on December 7th, 2015. Betsy is survived by her three children Kathleen Doherty (Joseph), John Gleeson, Karen Gleeson, nine grandchildren Molly, Mary, Maggie, Haley, Ryan, Thomas, Jack, Joseph, Nicole and sister Kathleen Gilmour, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John ”Jack” Gleeson, her parents Jon and Dorothy Gilmour, her brother Richard Gilmour, and her sisters Beverly Desmone and Joanne Stoeckle.
Betsy was born on May 22, 1946 in San Francisco. She attended St. James Grammar School and graduated from Presentation High School. At nineteen, on June 13, 1965, she married the love of her life, John “Jack” Gleeson. Betsy and Jack started their married life in Daly City, purchased their first home in Pacifica, and settled in Novato to raise their family. While raising three children, Betsy had a career with Kaiser Permanente for over thirty years. She was an active member of Our Lady of Loretto Church. She taught CCD for many years and was involved with Helping Hands.
Betsy was always up for fun and definitely the life of the party. There was never a dull moment when she was around. Her sense of humor, and love of practical jokes, kept everyone entertained. Betsy loved her summer place in Clear Lake; she and Jack spent as much time there as possible. She enjoyed her boat, big dinners, and dancing on the porch. Betsy loved to travel with her husband, especially cruising. She was very generous and her door was always open to anyone in need. Betsy’s pride and joy were her nine grandchildren, whom she built her life around.
Betsy touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, December 16th, 11:00am at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church in Novato. Private interment to follow.
Arrangements entrusted to Keaton’s Redwood Chapel of Marin.
