Richard Dale Anderson, age 71, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2022 in Novato, California.
Richard (Dale) was born in Pomona, California on July 13, 1950 to the late Winifred Cecile Lyman of Salem, Massachusetts and Ralph Paul Anderson of Chicago, Illinois. He then relocated north with family to Marin County at age 6. He graduated from San Rafael High School in 1967 and from Golden Gate University in 1971.
An accomplished marketing professional, Dale spent over 25 years in the wine and spirits industry, beginning his career in 1971 at Browne Vintners Company, a subsidiary of Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, Inc., then the world's largest distiller (Chivas Regal, Seagram’s 7 Crown, etc.). The company aimed to beef up its wine marketing efforts in California by expanding its base in San Francisco, which included Paul Masson Vineyards, (then the third largest California wine brand), and the marketing rights to the Christian Brothers. Dale was a key part of the selected marketing team and distinguished himself by his creativity, advertising planning, and execution. At Browne Vintners Company he was also introduced to the company’s then president, Arthur J. Palombo, who became a lifelong career mentor and akin to family. Dale later transitioned to Seagram’s Far East, and the company’s Latin America divisions. Then in 1987, Dale joined Cannon Wines in San Francisco as a marketing executive. He retired from the wine and spirits industry in the late 1990s, but his keen interest in the business never ceased.
His career fostered a fondness for world travel, exploration, and entertaining. He relished good company, and had a knack for engaging conversation and storytelling. He also reveled in telling a good joke and enjoyed a cheesy punch line most.
Dale had an unmatched love for Lake Tahoe, and all the activities it sponsored. From winter skiing, sledding and snowmobiling, to summer barbecues, boating, and kayaking. Sharing the fun with family and friends was a true pride and passion.
A fanatic of all sports - baseball, basketball, golf, college football and the NFL - weekends were dedicated to viewings, whether at the stadium or on screen, and to passing down that same passion to his children. Dale was a decorated high school track and field athlete. He had a love for diving as well, having swam with great whites in the Great Barrier Reef.
Dale is survived by his three children Todd (Kara) Christian Anderson, Alana Rose Anderson and Jenna (Tim) Leigh Nuss, four grandchildren (Cody James Anderson, Drew Carter Anderson, Reid Christian Anderson, and Mason Leigh Nuss), as well as fur-grandkids (Barkley and Whiskey). He was predeceased by his sister, Victoria (Vicki) Lynn Anderson.
No funeral service is scheduled at this time. Instead, a celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date. To share a memory of Dale, please visit https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/novato-ca/richard-anderson-10736346.
