Barbara Schmidt

After a life well-lived, Barbara Schmidt (nee Todd) passed into eternal life on November 11, 2025. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Todd; beloved husband, Earl, who passed in 1996; brothers John, Jim, Ed, Lawrence and Charles; sister-in-laws, Maxine, Pat and Mary. She is survived by sister-in-laws June, Marge and JoEllyn. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and many friends, including her longstanding group of favorite ladies.

Before marrying Earl in 1981, Barb worked in Homewood for the Federal Highway Administration. She was active in her church throughout her life and was recognized for her commitment to volunteer service with the Community Nutrition Network and Senior Services Association. She enjoyed a 90th birthday party in 2024 at the Aurelio’s in Homewood, attended by many loved ones, where she was in good health and spirits visiting with all. Finally, we would like to note that people always commented on Barb’s beautiful hair and she asked us how it looked just two days before she passed. She, and her hair, looked beautiful.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara’s honor to Catholic Charities or the Greater Chicago Food Depository would be appreciated.

A visitation for Barbara will be held Monday, November 17, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Chapel Hill Gardens South Funeral Home, 11333 South Central Ave, Oak Lawn, IL 60453, with a chapel funeral service to follow on Tuesday November 18, 2025 at Chapel Hill Garden South Funeral Home.Interment Chapel Hill Garden South Cemetery.
