

Florence M. Sajewich (nee Gottis), 101, of the Chicagoland area, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2024. Beloved wife of the late Stanley Sajewich who she was married to for 49 happy years; Loving mother of Richard (Patricia), John (Debra), Gary (Debra), and Sandra (Michael) Stenson; Cherished grandmother of John Charles (Jackie), James (Chelsea), Marion “Kate” (Brian) Acks, David (Haley), Lindsey (Chris) Shank, and Liam Stenson; Great-grandmother of Jenevieve, Giovanni, Duncan Acks, Maeve Acks, and Jack Shank. Florence is preceded in death by her parents John and Katherine Gottis as well as her brother John Gottis.
Florence Sajewich, a first-generation American of Romanian descent, blessed her family with many cherished memories throughout the years. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Florence and her family relocated to Chicago during her childhood. She attended and graduated from Parker High School and later participated in an administrative certificate program at Fox Secretarial College. She was a skilled administrator and office manager, working at the Illinois Central Railroad, Kelly Services, and a local hearing aid office.
Florence married the love of her life, Stanley Sajewich, in 1948. Together, they raised four children and enjoyed a fulfilling life in Evergreen Park and later Homer Glen. In her retirement years, Florence and Stanley traveled extensively, exploring far-off lands and embarking on ocean cruises.
Known for her culinary talents, particularly her beloved Christmas cookies, stuffed cabbage and spaghetti Bolognese, Florence enjoyed sharing these special delicacies with her family and friends. The best times of her life were spent being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Florence will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will take place on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Chapel Hills Gardens South Funeral Home, 11333 S Central Ave, Oak Lawn, IL, 60453. Family and friends are invited to Florence’s visitation from 9:30-11:30am. Immediately following the visitation, there will be time to share memories of Florence’s life from 11:30am-1pm.
