Lynn Gerry McAuliff was born and raised in Chicago to Jerry and Florence Sullivan and sister to Karen and Bonnie. She served in the United States Air Force before beginning a career with the U.S. Post Office. It was during her time at the Post Office that she met Glenn J. McAuliff. After dating Glenn for just two weeks, they married in August 1966. Their marriage lasted 22 years, until Glenn’s passing in 1988.
Lynn and Glenn welcomed three sons into their family Glenn(Chris), Matthew and Patrick(Jennifer), also adopted a son Ivan. In 2003, Lynn expanded her family further by adopting two daughters Carmencita and Crystal. She is a devoted grandmother to four grandchildren Emily, Glenn, Kevin and Colin and one great-grandson Issac.
Lynn and Glenn first became foster parents in 1978. She continued to be a foster parent after the death of her husband in 1988. She was a loving mother to hundreds of foster children through her 30 plus years of dedication to opening her home and heart to any child in need.
Lynn enjoyed gardening and relaxing in her backyard with family and friends, often with a High Life in hand. Lynn loved to knit, when a grandbaby was on the way she would always knit them a blanket. If she was sitting in her living room, she would be knitting. Another love she enjoyed daily was cooking for her family. She would always cook a Sunday meal for the family. She would always make sure that everyone had their plates filled and did not need anything before she would get her own plate ready. During the Christmas season she would be baking her family cookies and would make rum cakes for all to take home and enjoy. She cherished the time spent with loved ones and was known for her open and welcoming home. Although she would sometimes jokingly complain about having a full house, she never wanted her guests to leave and always invited them back warmly.
Lynn’s generosity extended beyond her immediate family. She frequently opened her door to friends and relatives, allowing them to stay until they were back on their feet, always without asking for anything in return. Her deepest love was for her husband and for being a mother to all those whose lives she touched.
