Love you, Grandpa! I love when we used to go to the creek and creek walk.  I love when we were playing in the woods and building forts.  I send love to you.  

Gary and his dad were both wonderful people. Gary and his crew resided our home in the 90’s.He did amazing work and the house still looks great today. We will always remember his hardy laugh and willingness to help.There will never be anyone like him!He will be missed.

I met Gary when I was 13 when his family moved into the neighborhood. Our families friends and we graduated high school together.some years later when Chris and I married we became more then just brothers in law but very close friends.Through the years we did many projects together and he always made it fun with his jokes and that infectious smile. In all those 55 years he never asked for anything from us but was the first  to offer help to us and anyone who needed it. These last few years when his struggles began, he never complained and always thought of other people first. He lived his life with character and dignity. He was the kindest most generous person I have ever known and we miss him terribly  already. Rest In Peace Gary, you certainly deserve it. We love you so very much!! P.S. try not to fix too many things.

We want to say what a pleasure it was to help care for Gary.  He brought warmness and smiles to all who had the honor of knowing him.  He will be greatly missed.  Our deepest sympathies to his family and friends, from Terra Vista

Gary Thomas Emeritz, “one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met”. I can’t tell you how often I’ve heard that. And with good reason, Gary was always there to help anyone who needed it, without hesitation. And never expected anything in return. It didn’t matter if it was friends, neighbors or maybe someone he saw looked like they could use it. Especially family. He provided such care for our parents through their illnesses. He was selfless. He was also patient. He was a big Bears fan, now that takes extreme patience! And he truly loved what he did for a living. 

Growing up with Gary as my brother was a gift. Well sometimes, when he wasn’t hanging me upside down from a tree during our cowboy and Indian games, or accidentally almost drowning me at the lake. At least I think it was accidental, but we did have a lot of fun. We were partners in crime. Our parents really should have had a fire extinguisher around. We swung from the rooftop of our garage, played baseball, made stilts and anything else we could think of.

Gary and I were always very close. We were there for each other, through good times and bad and everything in between. We knew the other would help to get us through whatever the situation. We had each other’s back without hesitation. We laughed, cried, joked and pulled pranks on each other. Always little jabs between us. We were more than siblings, we were friends. One of the best you could have. How lucky am I to have had both in Gary?!

So now we lay to rest an amazing man I am proud to call my brother and my friend. I will miss our conversations, jokes, hugs, his kind and gentle way and his laughter. Oh how I miss his laughter. I will miss him terribly without a doubt but I am truly grateful he has finally found peace outside of the body that turned on him. If I asked him today how he was doing and he could answer, he would once again be able to say “fine as frog hair”. So Rest In Peace Gary, you deserve it.

He loved his great niece and nephews so much

What a character! Always willing to help or just to say hello. Our kids were friends growing up and going to school together. You were the best friend and neighbor to my mom and dad. Don and Helen Pieper. Even though we haven’t seen you in years we always looked forward to a Christmas card after you moved back to the city. Gary you will be missed. We have nothing but fond and fun memories!!! Mark and Debby Pieper Smallwood.

My favorite memories are going to the lake with the Emeritz family, listening to music on the porch , playing cards, camping in the yard, bon fires, cucumber sandwiches, popcorn, so many great memories, so much fun.

Uncle G, you were always there when we needed you! When I said our bathroom vent was rattling, you were on our roof to fix it! But you were so much more than the man that wanted to take care of our "problems". You were the guy we looked forward to seeing what Christmas tie you'd show up in. You were the guy your great niece and nephews gave great nicknames to (Uncle G, Uncle Fuzz) , and be on the floor with them playing their new games, because you were that kind of guy! The kind of guy that never missed an opportunity to show who you really were! You loved us all so much! And never failed to show it! We are at a huge loss at your passing. Our lives will never be the same as there is a giant void now, but I am so thankful you are finally free❤ I know you are watching over us❤ 

Gary and his family took me in and treated me as their own when I was young and very lost in this world.  We had a mutual love for music and especially liked James Brown and all the Motown records of the time.   We used to walk from Elmhurst to Northlake and Melrose Park in any kind of weather discussing what the future might hold.  He was wise beyond his years.  His positive attitude and infectious laugh will always remain as some of the greatest memories of my life.
Although I moved away and lost touch, Chris and Mark will always be like family in my heart.  
Gary, I am glad you are finally at peace.
