Howard Liva was my high school band director. He was energetic and full of ideas, and I was captured by his enthusiasm. He really saw me and that set the trajectory of my life. I studied the art of music and and have been a music teacher, director, conductor, and performer for many years. By chance I happened upon Howard's obit.  It's never too late to say "thanks" so this is my heartfelt appreciation to Howard for lighting my passions.

Eric and Kim-I am so sorry to hear about your father passing.  Peg Kennedy actually called and told me that she saw it in the Tribune.  My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

I am so sorry your life with Howard was cut short so early. You both were so compatible with each other. I will always remember how Howard just loved to help & he would make coffee each morning & Bagels when I visited from out of town.

I was priveleged to be Howard and Doris's neighbor in Aurora for a number of years. During that time our friendship grew, and I had the pleasure of sharing Howard's love of music, his intense curiousity, wry sense of humor, and his indomitable spirit. Howard and Doris gave so much of themselves during the difficult challenges of the past few years. I will dearly miss Howard and cherish the memories we shared.

I am so sorry for your loss. You and Howard were both wonderful, kind, considerate neighbors to us and we were blessed to have that grow into friendship. He was a funny, fun loving man who engaged us in his life. We will mourn and miss him but will always treasure the memories we have shared with him.
